I have to agree, most double headers are unnecessary on preserved lines
It is difficult to get a combination that is pleasing to the eye.Having said that its nice to see an ambitious railway going for a real Gala
Hope all the hard work gives them a weekend to remember, sure it will

Bear in mind, however, that some of the double heading arises from locos attaching / detaching at Haworth to save light engine movements; the alternative would see light engine movements take out a "working" train. In addition some of the double heading adds interest for the crews and - being volunteers - I'm sure the schedule is possibly geared for their benefit / pleasure as much for the visitors.

As a linesider I look forward to double-heading as the KWVR is one line where there are locations to show them off to best advantage.

Can anyone confirm whether short hop tickets will be available as per past galas please? Can't make the whole day but I do fancy a round trip at some point if time permits!

Yes, it's a pity we can't go back to those sublime pairings of yesteryear such as MSC31 piloting 34092! (LOL)
Joking apart, I like double headers, broadside in Oxenhope woods makes a good venue and a change from the traditional three quarter broadside. Lets face it, it's playing model trains at 12 inch to 1 foot when all said and done, and I have no problem with that. Just glad we have such a wonderful collection of live steam loco's to go and see.

So long as it's only once in a while it's just a bit of fun really... And if they're going to be daft, they might as well be completely ridiculous!

City of Wells was parked outside at Haworth today substantially complete but not in steam. It was being worked on, looking like an engine again...............

The Club Car will be on the Oxenhope end of the set marked "RB" on the working timetables. Hope this helps.

Operationally great day, 90733 as weathered 711 looks great as does a clean lined out 1501.:)

1501 gets the award for good departures from Keighley, very solid & surefooted unlike 45305 & 7812 which seemed to struggle a bit at times.

As to the weather DULL, DULL & DULLER with a smattering of rain for good measure :(

Very impressive first day, great locos but lousy weather.

I struggled to get anything decent as it was so dull and dismal..........LINK

Just for the record I had one round trip on 1501 from Keighley to Oxenhope and back this morning. I was willingly sold a single round trip ticket for £10. Good trip it was too!

Good visit today, a big thanks to all involved.

Nunlow on full line trip was steady away.

    WD looked the business

Nice to see City of Wells outside the shed

Manor on express run was great as was the black 5 later in the day.

The typo on the roster with 4160 doing 1720 from both ends at same time caught a few out, me included, so missed ride behind it.

Hope steam heat is on more tomorrow, only used an odd time today, guard was heard saying he'd asked a driver to put it on, only to be told no.

Plenty travelling for a Friday, sadly weather forecast only getting worse each day

Had a great (but very damp) day on the railway today. Special mention must go to the crews who battled through some miserable conditions and very greasy rail. Every load going up hill slipped and the Manor seemed to be really struggling for grip out of the loop up to Oakworth. Made a fantastic show though!

Heres my offering. I hope they get better weather tomorrow!

    Back again today for more!!

Heat on today and most welcome on all trains travelled on.

Weather worse than yesterday but seemed more travelling which is good news

Best run was with the GW tanks - superb!!!

Good few slips with the damp conditions, crews doing their best to keep things moving.

Top marks for clawing the 25 minute delays back by mid afternoon, an Ingrow shuttle was cancelled to catch up time.

USA 95820 looks superb as did City of Wells, roll on 2014 galas for these two.

Thanks again for a great days entertainment
