I'd forgotten to mention that. They nearly caught me out with this one. I'd just sat down with my lunch 'knowing' I must have about 20 minutes and 1501 came round the corner. They must have kicked it out of Keighley as soon as the other was past the points! Top marks! Its rare to see any railway claw late running back on single track.

Excellent Steam Gala from the KWVR again.

Did the same in journey's as I did in March, travelled up & down the line behind 1501, 45305, 7812 on the express, and the double headed of 4160/1501 as far as Haworth when 4160 detached and went back to shed.

Only got a slight glimpse of the 5820 in the yard at Haworth, but quite impressed on how 'City of Wells' is looking.

Massive thank you to everyone again at the KWVR for putting on another good show. Any chance that someone from the Worth Valley could announce the dates for the Steam Gala's next year??

Not a bad day on Sat, although the driver on 1501 didn't really seem game for it?

4160 and Crapstoke sounded ok though!

Pretty much agree with the above. Ended up staying for the day on Saturday, and it was a good one. Judging by videos it looks like I chose the wrong day to spend behind 1501, but that's life. 4160 somewhat more lively on the double header, a good performance, that, especially in view of the wet rails! Perhaps not the best of starts, turfing everyone off the rake at Keighley (twice!) on a cold morning earned some grumbles, particularly from families. Would this have been avoidable had the rakes started on opposite platforms? But it least it wasn't raining at that point, and it was good to see the delays recovered by the afternoon.

Interesting formation this evening on 17.20 from Keighley. 1054 and 90733 on 6 Mark ones and 4 suburbans. The Coal tank barely seemed to be taking its own weight, and the noise from the Dubdee was incredible! The cinders were still raining down a minute after they had passed. I saw one guy filming it, so hopefully there'll be a video on youtube at some point.

Even by KWVR's usual high standards this was a great gala. Three visitors plus the hired 45305 and some great performances by the locos. I really liked the effort put into providing additional things to see and do at the stations especially the model railways and trade stands at Oxenhope. I think putting the L&Y coach into the Mark 1s consist was a dubious decision especially as it was on the front of the trains, little use seemed to be made of it.
I would be interested to know what the crews thought of the GWR locos, the Manor seemed to have to work a lot harder on the 6 coaches compared to the other locos. I hope the weekend was a commercial success after the effort put into it, the weather wasn't very kind and there were considerably less people on the Sunday than on Saturday. I am very grateful for the free timetables and loco roster, on my visits they were completely accurate too, excellent.

That's a good point, another vote of thanks for the free rosters released a good time in advance!

What's with the pink grease that was daubed all over the bridge abutments at the underpass public footpath in Oxenhope Woods during the event?

The local farmer has a dislike of railway enthusiasts and puts grease all over the walls to stop people climbing on them. Have witnessed him threatening people with a saw in the past if they venture in to his fields.

The grease had migrated onto the style Saturday afternoon making it somewhat tricky in the rain. Should someone hurt themselves he could be in for one hefty liability claim, provided it was him and could it be proven, but you would need someone legally qualified to comment properly.

A fantastic weekend, a rather noisy one! That Manor sounded superb tackling the banks this weekend... As already mentioned 90733 and 1054 taking the 10 coach train on Sunday evening was also a highlight, 1054 was doing barely anything at Mytholmes.

Footage is now online and the event DVD is available to Pre-Order from our website, copies will be available from the Worth Valley shops during November. Nat Pres users can save 10% with code: KWVR10

I think it's more the price of the supplement that effected numbers, than it's actual position. £3.50 one way or £6 return, ontop of your normal ticket and no food/drink allowed. Myself and my mate did it, as we wanted to be near the front for at least 1 of the Manor trip's plus we'd done some bargaining in the shop and so thought we'd at least spend what we'd saved on the railway. Going elsewhere Swanage only charge £2 per single journey for the Devon Belle, and this is regularly full, whilst SVR charged £6 supplement for a Cream Tea service on their Obso. So in comparison you're paying the higher price for the lesser product.

Anyway, just thought I'd post my own thanks to KWVR lads for a brilliant gala on the Friday. Certainly enjoyed myself and loved the Traction Engines at Ingrow too. Nice to speak to Keiron in the L&Y Car as well btw, hope you've taken a well deserved rest! Only comment I'd say is that with 4 guest locos (45305 + 3x GWR) it did feel to be a bit too much. Would of been nice for 4160 to have done a bit more, but with the Five coming out to play as well I'm not sure what more you could of done with it. Enjoyed the full length trip behind Nunlow though, and 1501 departure from Keighley was one of the most impressive attempts out of Keighley I've seen. She didn't even feel it! Looking forward to my next visit.
