Oh goodie, looks like we have a newbie on Fridays VSOE round the Surrey Hills.

According to RTT, Braunton and Britannia are out of Alton on Monday morning for Stewarts Lane, Braunton stays there, and Britannia is off to Southall.

Don't bank on Braunton for the British Pullman. She is first reserve in case the summer maintenance work on Clan Line is not finished to the MNLPS's liking.

According to Braunton's FB feed, it WILL be running the VSOE! Excellent news, might see it on Sunday too if it sticks around Stewarts Lane... More on that later ;)

James, from the gen on the ground today, its 50/50.................................yes she is on standby, BUT, you may not know this but Braunton only passed its FTR 30 minutes before it was due to move the MHR, and yesterdays withdrawal had nothing to do with brakes.......................................... I can say no more!

I heard 3 different reasons for the failure at the MHR yesterday: It was either injector problems, hot tender axle box or brake problems. Anyone know the ACTUAL reason?

Yes I do, its non of the above, but as I said, its not for me to say........................................ I'll leave that to the rumour mongers, until a member of the support crew speaks up!

The cover of the axle box below the cab was removed and there appeared to be a bent nail (I think) and a straight one. But before I noticed that, someone next to me asked the female crew member what the problem was and she said brakes and a chock was in place on the rear end driving wheel.

Did she make it back into service today? If she's preparing to possibly leave tonight I would assume she did.

I heard she sportingly declared herself hors-de-combat in order not to embarrass the Riddles and Peppercorn opposition over the weekend ...

Just for fun, let no one post which locomotive it is and so on the day, you can have the thrill of surprise which loco is going to do the tour! Just like old trainspotting days of the 60's. You knew it was a steam diagram, but what would show up?

At the moment it appears to be either or..................................... if its 34046, according to UK Steam, she has a rather strange wheel arrangement of 4-6-3!!

Is the third trailing wheel for 3rd rail pick up?..................................................

You see, that's the problem of having a GWR man in charge of UKSteam! Everyone knows the wheel arrangement of a Bulleid Pacific is 21C...

    :)

I see UK Steam is now showing Braunton at the head of the train, and the 3rd rail shoe/wheel has been removed - obviously no need for the extra juice!! ;)

Braunton's support coach is being repainted at the moment into maroon.

Maroon. Now there's a nice Southern colour to complement the loco. Still I guess the absence of a green train means that it's a choice between West Coast maroon or Riviera blood and custard and the odds are that she'll be hooked onto West Coast stock more often than not - Torbay excepted.

As regards today's British Pullman. I see that the Class 67 was left attached to the train. That would have made an interesting load for a Class 7 to drag up Gomshall bank. A good example of 'belt and braces' I suspect.
