Yes, just after nationalisation. It would certainly be good to see her in that livery again. Another nice possibility would be as LNER no. 103 in apple green with sans serif markings. Neither would be 100% accurate to her physical condition, but that's irrelevant anyway as her post-overhaul condition (A3 boiler, corridor tender, double chimney etc) would be a combination never seen before.

I think you have the wrong colour yellow and by the way, you win the prize for the furthest digression from the thread title to date, that just beats my #2419!

wouldnt be great though if the A1 trust were to fix a large double arrow and renumber 60163 for a trip, how about next april guys??
Getting back to 4472, whats the time span before we hear the verdict on the frames , have york budgeted for frame repairs if the frames need new sections let in? or will they have to go cap in hand to the ministry

Sanity? Taste? Like I said it was a bit of fun and not really finished but never mind!

Back on topic, where were we? Oh yes, BR lined mixed traffic black with early crest wasn't it?

No, that will be the new build K3, not the total rebuild A3............

I wonder if Ian Riley suspected that something was not quite right with the alignment before the engine was transported back to York? He renewed the frame stretchers and repaired the hornblocks, providing new horn stays and his staff were pictured trying to set the chassis up correctly. If they were checking the axle centres and the cylinder bore centres, and from the pictures that were posted it looks as though they were, then it would have proved impossible to achieve a satisfactory solution, given the information contained in the NRM report. Makes you think a bit.

It should not take IR long to remove the cylinders, he is normally pretty quick. The twelve week timescale for their removal and the inspection of the frames will soon pass so we should know towards the end of January. I just hope he doesn't find anything else, he shouldn't, that is what is believed. I will still be happier when we get to February.

But would the undecided arrow be the opposite way round on that side? (As on the port side of the BR ships.)

At sea you navigate on the right. The rail arrow shows LH running and the BR ships is obviously the other way round. Nothing to do with sides I was wrong the arrow on one side was reversed on the funnel - top arrow facing forward. Logically therefore the other side of the tender, RH side, should be reversed on a loco so the bottom arrow allways faces forward

But what happens if you have bi-directional running?- or single track working? This getting confusing... Maybe some sort of LED display that can change on the move...

Now does anyone get the idea that I feel that this thread has somewhat derailed?... :)

Didn't he also suspect/discover there were flaws in the firebox copper welding by another contractor?

Is this just a 'heard from a friend of a mate who knows someone' or is it based on fact.
