Narrow Gauge Junk

Does anyone know anything about the pile of narrow gauge junk rotting away beside the Bromyard to Stanford Bridge road just on the outskirts of Bromyard.
There appears to be a lot of stuff there including what appears to be a saddle tank of a loco.
I passed there on Wednesday and it has all been untouched for years.
Does anybody know what has happened here?

A mention from 2003 here, with this info: "at Bromyard the site became an industrial estate. It is from the entrance to this estate that in 1968 the 2 ft gauge Bromyard and Linton Light Railway laid its track. Today the Light Railway is no longer there. The track is still in situ and there are hopes that one day trains might return." There's more to be found with Google. Their loco seems to be Peckett 0-6-0 no 1327.

You beat me to it. The sign says "Bromyard and Linton Light Railway". After a bit more Googling, a found some more info here:

Thanks for the replies, reminds me of days in the early 60's cutting traction engines from the undergrowth, really is a shame though.

Interesting pics! According to the Charity Commission website the Bromyard and Linton Light Railway Association Limited still exists and their income for the last financial year was £5...it also states 'The company aims to operate a narrow gauge railway line in the Bromyard area'. They also apparently still have 3 directors of the company. Would be great to see trains running there, especially with that Peckett hauling them! Does anyone know how long the line actually is? Did they ever run passenger trains?

Same Peckett, but that photo isn't at Bala, I don't think MESOZOIC ever visited Bala. As it says in the caption, Gilfach Ddu (= Llanberis, in this case the yard of Tony Hills, who later created the Brecon Mountain Railway).

Just little bit of history about this site, before the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway took off at Woody Bay, I contacted the then owner to ask about this collection and what was happening to it as I was told there was going to be a fire sale of all the equipment.

Having made contact, I was then told that a charity ws going to be set up to hold on to the collection so a railway museum could be set up, I understand that it had been open quite sometime ago (at least 15 years or more) but it was never on a regular basis.

I am guessing that they don't have a very large active membership as the IRS handbook 14EL states it is not open to the public.

So they are. I think the boiler is in the big shed, someone known to you & I was after the thing 5 years ago, but he didn't succeed.

These people never seem to change, years ago there were those who had engines rotting in fields and yards but who would rather see them rot away than sell them for restoration.
Seems it still goes on. None so strange as folk.

Sorry to resurrect a thread from long long ago, however the company I am currently working for have an office about 1/2 a mile from here. The frames (mesozoic?) are sat there in amongst all the other bits and bobs. It all looks very forlorn. It appears that the PLEG group visited earlier this year looking at their website. Looking at the stocklist looks like there is some Gems there too.

When I last visited the site around 6 months ago there was evidence of tree clearance but very little else. Could be a nice little railway with a bit of input. I'm relatively near to Bromyard and would be interested in having a go if only......

 

Seems there is some action at the B&LR, as the PLEG were there in June 2013, and three trains were run behind Motor Rail 9676/1952. Is there any way that this line could become a reality once more? Also, did anyone from the PLEG take any video footage of the journey? Would love to know as very keen to volunteer and help get this wonderful little quirky line back 'on track'.

 

I visited the site again today and sadly not much appears to have happened for some considerable time, although I was interested to hear that the PLEG visited the site in June. I recently walked the track bed from Linton to Bromyard and most of it is overgrown. I too would be interested to hear of any attempts to get this railway back on track or connect up with those with a similar interest.
