Yes things are moving quite well. We have also launched the bolier loans last month to members, they will be going out to everyone else from warley onwards and in a very short time we have already raised £75, 000 of the £300, 000 target. So this means work will be able to get started early next year on the boiler at crewe.

    Great Western vindt dit leuk.

No update as of yet regards the wheelset. Still in turkey at the moment. And I havent heard any news of a date for its return.as soon as it is back we can crack on with the assembly. So our 2014 plan will most likely be construction of the inner firebox to be started at crewe, outside cylinders, front bogie when all parts arrive. Plus other parts of the rollling chassis. As with everything is dependent on money so we need to keep the fundraising going and explore all options of money coming in. And obviously our favourite one is monthly donations as it really means we can plan each month. So if there is anyone out there who has been thinking.of joining there isnt a better time to do so!

Excellent progress Gav! I shall be renewing my membership this month and hopefully seeing 45551 at the Warley Model Railway Show later this month. Something to look forward to in what can be a depressing month.

What's depressing about November? I always find post Christmas/New Year depressing. Especially when the credit card bill flops onto the mat. :(

I have to say that this was my main reason for visiting the model railway exhibition at the NEC today and it did not disappoint. It was a stunning example of how a new-build steam project can progress if the team has the marketing skill and a strong image to sell. It was also most evocative to see all the other Patriot nameplates on display. No doubt in my mind that the gap between the smokebox and cab will contain a working boiler in due course. It was good to see Gav106 and some of the other members of the Patriot Team again too. Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you.

I think the success of the Patriot Project thus far proves just how influential Tornado's success has been on railway preservation. Without that first pace setter, we simply would not have the interest in new build locomotives developing as it is. Consider that in five to seven years time, we should have the A1, Patriot, Brighton Atlantic, Standard 3MT, Standard 2MT, and at least a Saint completed and in steam. Factor in we'd have a Grange, County, Gresley P2 and numerous others in various stages of construction getting close to their first steaming dates, and this last decade and the next have truly been the age of the new build steam locomotive.

My hat's off to the Patriot team - she looks utterly magnificent. Who would have thought, prior to Tornado, that we would have seen such progress on all of these new builds which will help to rejuvenate interest in steam, and rightly commemorate our British history in such varied and beautiful ways.

Brings a tear to one's eye frankly...

Ok so where do we book on it's first tour......:) And lets have some serious suggestions for the route on which a Pat would have been a regular sight.

Regular sight? One possible option would be to replicate the cross-country services, Newcastle-Cardiff, that were worked by Bristol Barrow Rd Jubilees and Patriots in the 1950's and early 'sixties. So lets say York ( NRM stabling)-Sheffield-Derby-Birmingham-Bristol ( Barton Hill servicing.) or if you want a headboard, start in Bradford/Leeds, as the "Devonian".
Could always add a Jubilee or Black 5 to help out. Totally prototypical. Needs a rake of WR livery Mk1's which were common on these services.
Otherwise I suppose the Patriots were more common on the western division of the LMS.

I love the poster in between the boiler, brings back memories of Tornado at the same stage, and when that picture appeared probably convinced the railway world that not only was Tornado coming, but the mountain had already been climbed ...

Congratulations, I hope it has the same effect.

Methinks, only until it gets back to Llangollen. It was done for publicity only. I believe there is a lot of work to do on the frames before it can receive the wheelsets properly.

During the show it was put on wooden axleboxes. The frames have now gone to tyseley today for two months for the wheel sets to be fitted to the axleboxes properly.

Then it will go back to llan to fit the new inside cylinder. We had a fantastic weekend at warley with over 100 new members signing up including the 1000th member of the project. Im hoping that a fantastic amount of money has beeen raised to put towards the outside cylinders. So if anyone wants to make a donation on the new website towards the project it would be most appreciated. Ill update with a more in depth list of where were up to when I have finished work. (Currently on a break)
