What happened to all the kit from the last time it ran mainline? If they have all that then the only need GSMR, which would run at about 20k. That cost then also depends on whether they can gain access to a similar locos GSMR design; Clan Line or 009/018/027...

I stand to be corrected but the kit required for a main line loco these days wasn't required back then.

TPWS became mandatory from 2003, so if she wasn't fitted then will now require it in addition to GSMR and OTMR.

35005 was/is fitted with AWS only which will be retained as the MHR is AWS fitted. GSMR, OTMR, TPWS all required. The MHR has no plans at present to operate any of its locomotives on the mainline.

When 35005 was on the mainline, all you needed was AWS &TPWS it shouldnt be that hard to fit the gubbings, but the MHR wont be able to afford it, if people want to see Canpac on the mainline, they will have to pay for it, personally, i would rather see Cheltenham get the kit, if the Midhants were to ever go back into the mainline market. its a pity that no one has yet come up with a kit of parts that you just plug in to a loco, then its just a case of plug it in, conect up the laptop, recalibrate for what ever loco, test everything works, and job done, what would that bring the cost down to, The train operator, ie West coast could hold sets of kit and as long as every mainine approoved engine had identical plug in boxes it would reduce the cost down to a more reasonable ammount

The equipment is to an extent "plug-and-play"; the issue is more than likely with producing the design for, and gaining the relevant certification for the installation of it.

He also sent me one of the Cunard White Star as well for good measure!
    What ever became of 35004?

My pleasure. The plate currently resides on a shelf in the secure, climate controlled store rooms. It would be nice to get some of the small items like these
back on display again, perhaps centred around D of C's BR number plate when it comes back.

Well spotted athelney! It is indeed Dorchester, both nameplate and shield.
Another generous gift from a private donor who purchased it from BR, for the simple reason that "Dorchester" was the name of Canada's first steam locomotive
purchased from Robert Stephenson in 1836, for Canada's first railway, the Champlain and Saint Lawrence.

A side note - I had the Hornby 3 rail model of 'Dorchester' as a kid, as well as photographing it on the up fast through Eastleigh heading to Waterloo in the 'steam days '
