Photographers, and others. It's worth remembering that whatever else NR throws at us on Thursday, Bittern will be limited to 75 mph through Northallerton and, of course, Durham.

Have you got that for definite Al - ordinary service trains do not slow for Northallerton when not stopping (Durham may require slowing for alignment)

75 through Durham would be spectacular enough, and certainly make one or two normals take notice....

from a post by ADB968008 on page 24.
24 hours later, and ive still got the image from the window as we rocketed through Newark in my head and looking down at the app on my iPad swapping between 90,91,92 and 93 for mile after mile.... and when it turned the handle at Hitchen and went from 78 to 88 in a few seconds.., repeating the same exercise at Doncaster and just making it look easy. (Our Class 90 on the way back was around 92-95 !), ok 93 maybe 92.8 and my ipad rounding, its still fast.

Durham is definitely 75mph max - applies to all trains over the viaduct. Photographers I suppose would prefer the slower sections anyway.....at least I would with my reaction time!

Bridge slack at Northallerton. Something similar down Stoke on Saturday.

    oooooh hell yeah.

Confirmed we in no way went slow at Hitchen, Doncaster and we went like a rocket through Newark.

The images now engrained in my brain :)

I'm physically not on saturdays train.. but mentally I am.

Thanks Al - you have to wonder why - I am sure that there isn't that much difference in axle load between an A4 and a 4 axle Class 91 (or 43). Of course, no hammer blow on the later.

But I did only get as far in my Civil Engineering studies as turning down a place at Leeds University and did once agree with a life-long PWay man that it seemed odd slowing to cross a bridge with "issues" - surely it was better to get a heavy loco across as quickly as possible......?

    For example:
    60009 did 73 mph through Durham 12th June 2004
    60007 did 71 mph through Durham 18th Dec 2010

It's part of my postal address and it's often misspelt on letters I receive. I just assumed those who spell it Hitchen were related to Bert. :)
