On SWT......."and I'll be walking through the train during the journey".......OK it's in your script but the idea is that you actually DO walk through the train! There's a book of them waiting to be written out there. Meanwhile, back on thread, I am hoping that tomorrow might be the day that I break my long standing southbound speed record for steam on this stretch - 90 mph, recorded of course by a Merchant Navy (35026), what else!

No ludicrous rail announcement can beat the Waitrose people mover one 'You are now approaching the end of the conveyor'. Must get a tape for a certain future event.

If anything will stop the fun-filled grammar debate......................

    From National Rail

High Winds are expected to hit the North of England and Scotland on Thursday 5th December 2013. Speed restrictions will be imposed and therefore some Train Operators will be running an amended timetable from start of service on Thursday 5th December 2013.
    East Coast
    Details to be confirmed
    First TransPennine Express
These changes are expected to apply until approximately 14:00, but may continue past 14:00 depending on the weather conditions.
    • No trains will run between Newcastle and York apart from 06:11 Newcastle to Liverpool Street which will run.
    • Services between Hull and Manchester Piccadilly will only run between Hull and Huddersfield
    • No trains will run between Carlisle and Edinburgh / Scotland apart from 07:42 Edinburgh to Manchester Airport. Passengers to use Virgin Trains services between Carlisle and Scotland. Virgin Trains will be stopping additionally at Lockerbie.
    • All other services are planned to run as normal but may suffer delay due to the poor weather conditions

CrossCountry and East Coast alterations are "to be confirmed" apparently. So does this scupper my bid to get to Thirsk by train tomorrow? Nothing anywhere on the TPE website about this of course or even on twitter just stupid marketing cr*p - and they are still more than happy for me to hand over my cash to buy a ticket!

My best one was "I can be found at the front of this 8 car train" Errr knock knock, in that case we appear to have left 4 cars behind

Based on what has been announced so far, the Trans Pennine service to Middlesbrough Will be running, which is what forms most trains to Thirsk. Grand Central services also all call there.

The forecast this morning was for gusts up to 70 mph - I find it rather sad if this is still the case that the modern rail network seems to want to pack up and go home!

Thanks Steven will obviously check other sources first.

Here is a link to the revised East Coast timetable http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/css/East_Coast_Thursday_5_December_2013.pdf

IC225s timed for 1 hour 15 mins Newcastle - York.

I think this sort of strategy is designed to discourage people from travelling as much as possible. If the OHLE does come down or a tree does block the line, it is better to have a few immobilised trains filled with people than many trains. The SWT complete shut down a few Mondays ago, although heavily criticised, was a great idea in the end considering the trees that blocked the line. If a full Monday morning service had been running the chaos is unthinkable!

Living in County Durham here, not 20 mins drive from the mainline and weather is slightly cloudly, no sings of bad weather at the moment! Yes it might be due, but its nothing out of the ordinary at present.

Weather forecast for tomorrow at Thirsk is for winds to be about 30 mph ish. Even with gusts at double that I dont think its as bad as some are forecasting.... If anything the forecast is improving continually for tomorrow!!

There's not much doubt that it's going to be stormy for a while up north (definitely in Scotland) and I can understand why the Met Office will have warned NR who in turn has done what it does best - i.e. go for the safest options without actually shutting down the whole system. I have a view about that but it's 2013 and this is what happens. That said, we can only hope that in 12 hours time when the seriousness of what is coming is really apparent....and if NR has the capacity to respond quickly to real time weather......we have a chance that the return from Newcastle may be ok if the wires are still up but whether we'll get anything like was planned going north remains to be seen. This is not my preferred way of blowing a few hundred pounds.

where've you been all this time ? Didn't you realise the postponements of this trip was a cover story for overhauling the fast green duck all along ?
    :)

70013… thanks for that heads up I may pick a new location, done 70013 at Hornsey before.

Well this tour is on the way. (though part of this tour is advertised as Bristol to York as well).
Looking at York stations arrivals board trains from Newcastle appear to be running late / STP paths..

Looks like the trip is on, just don't know the speed.

Speed restrictions and some cancellations between York & Newcastle are being reported on local media at present. Quite breezy  here in Durham at the moment.

On ecml heading north at 115 mph but north of Pboro the train manager says the limit is 80 and north of York it is 50 allegedly.

Looking at the forecast Al your earlier view may be the one to hang onto. Just hope the infrastructure is OK for a 90mph dash coming South. But firstly hope you can get North to Newcastle ok to be able to do that.

Good luck to you and all those on, and involved in running the train

Local media advising no trains between N'cle and York until 12.00 noon, not sure if this is only 1 operator or not.
    Not good news if accurate.
Now amended to no trains north of N'cle into Scotland.
