    Like all things Bulleid, I believe there are various different options depeding on your loco/tender type and/or era. There are certainly drawings (in the NRM collection) which show not a gauge as such, but a perforated pipe with holes drilled up its length which when they spurt a jet of water give you an indication of the tank level. (In a similar manner to say an A4 - as seen in the water troughs bit of 'Elizabethan Express').

    However, I think from memory some Bulleid tenders do have a more convetional gauge operated from a float mechanism (But can't see any drawings of these in the NRM collection of Bulleid drawings). Seem to recall that the float & gubbins is visible on Ellerman Lines sectioned tender.

    There is a shot of the gauge surround casting on the Southern Locomotives Ltd photo page (but no pointer).

    This looks more like the BR standard gauge and this may be what was adopted in the BR years and post rebuild.

    The OP is a BBLS member so I'm guessing he's wanting the info regarding 34081. She has the float and pointer system. If 34077 wants the info for a different loco then ignore the above.

    No, you are correct, the info is for 34081. We now have located a diagram of the part after a further search but I thought a photo might be a helpful thing as it is only the actual pointer part that is required. Thanks. John

    I've got hundreds of pics of her from arrival at Wansford in 1977 right through to now but I bet not one will show the bit you're on about.
