1953 in fact, and in my biased opinion, the best railway film ever

I'm glad it works for you, doesn't for me!

    Thought it looked very early

It works for me as a TR member since 1985 and a loco volunteer since 1990. I guess you either love it or hate it, but as a colour and sound non-enthusiast record of the time, yes it has tongue in cheek moments, but is lovely in my humble opinion

I'll second that. It is the essence of railway preservation as it first started out. Filmed in 1953 and nothing more heard of until a copy suddenly arrived at the TR in 1965.

Ha ha, sorry! Enjoy! The TR will sell you a DVD of it for £10.95 - I've bought countless copies over the years and no doubt will buy more. It encapsulates the spirit of the Talyllyn, even 60 years on and was an award winning film across the Atlantic when it was made.

It brought my mental image inspired by Tom Rolt's epic book into sharp focus.
I believe today's Talyllyn is quite faithful to the original, wonderful as the Welsh Highland now is, I think they lost that certain something that fascinated me in it. I shall have to visit again soon and sit at Dolgoch waiting for the train, marvellous!

Quite delightful. The essence of railway preservation in one short film. O that we could return to such simple ways of doing things.

Can never tire of seeing this, recommend the DVD as the sound quality is much better with that iconic theme... http://talyllynrailwayshop.co.uk/

Read this and L.T.C Rolts 'Railway Adventure', and you'll be hooked..
