    Folks,

Pleased to say that 7827 Lydham Manor succesfully passed her Boiler exam today. We had her out and about light engine today to run in a replaced bearing and ensure everything settles back down ok. She will be out again tomorrow morning before hauling our 12:15 & 14:15 service trains, double heading with 4277 Hercules. All being well she will officailly re-enter revenue earning service on Wednesday. Come down and see her shining again in what will hopefully be a very sunny week!

Does this mean 7827 has got a fresh 10 year ticket or were the repairs just to keep it going until its present ticket expires?

Hello Rory an excellent trip was had on the 2.15 on Tuesday glad to see she's back and very very shiny and as noisy as ever.

I gather the 1030 on Wednesday was 10 coaches so perhaps I chose the wrong day :)

However I've been informed she wasn't on the final train on Wednesday as it was diesel hauled?

Great to see her back. Splendid loco. Far to short a return though as 4277 was back on over the weekend. Hope it's routine and not a snag with 7827...

7827 will be back in service from this coming wednesday. She was stopped for a washout and a brickarch replacemet. We had a bad batch of fire cement used in the bricks used on the arch. This is what forced the class 25 out for the final trip last wednesday, it didnt take to 10 coach trains very well! She will remain in service over this clming weekend and operate with 4277 on our first week of 2 train running next week.

Also, keep a look out for kinlet hall threading its way to paignton by lorry on thursday!

Heard it's possibly out of gauge between Newton Abbott & Paignton so that plans probably scuppered.

Suprised Paignton persist with the 25 as a "Thunderbird" if it struggles on the heavier loads, especially when the freight tanks can take anything you can throw at them.

I guess its because 4277 was due washout? and with 5239 out for repair and 75014 for overhaul, no other steam traction available, so cue the 25. 5239 being out is the reason I think that we are getting Kinlet for the summer, not just for the heritage weekend.

Yeah being out of gauge would sound correct I remember it was booked for a tour last October to Plymouth but was out of gauge so I thought it would be a no go but oh well would been nice seeing as I'm booked on the first royal duchy.

What I meant Stu was woulden't something like a 37 or 47 be more suitable for Thunderbird duties if the 25 is on the limit of what it can do ?.

Hi, I recently got hold of about 60 long forgotten about but high quality slides that appear to be of 7827 undertaking a major overhaul or some kind, possibly a new boiler inspection? I'm a rail enthusiast of many years but confess i know little about steam. I hope it's ok to ask here as i didn't want to jump into website on day 1 creating new threads and barging in. I'm fascinated by these transparencies. They are of unusually high quality and show the loco in a significantly stripped down state and detail beautiful close ups of British craftsmanship and engineering. I've researched as far as i can online about this loco but can't decide if these date from the 1973 rebuild or a later exam of some type. They all appear to be of a 78xx Manor but some seem to be in BR Black, others GWR green? i am guessing the shed is of Churton after thinking initially it was Didcot. I've uploaded a few to flick that i hope will be publicallly available for all to see? I've put some notes on them. 7815 is on one of the wheel centres Is this related to 7815 Fritwelll Manor now scrapped? The pics are very low-res pics taken with pocket camera and wall viewer. They don't reflect the originals. I'd really appreciate some help? I've spent all day trying to suss these out. Thanks. Flickr: shackles3's Photostream

Not sure if it is Churston shed or not. The roof looks similar, but not identical. I was trying to compare your picture with the one below taken inside Churston earlier this year. Might be Paignton?...........

7827 was out and about this week following the bottom end work shown in post #13 some slow LE moves, then towing one of the 2-8-0Ts then 2-8-0T plus coaches on a service train. I guess she will be on the renaming Santas this year?

The photo marked as Manor front wheel set is actually a trailing radial wheel set from a 56xx, 51xx or 72xx tank. The photo of the frame section shows it's location. The photos of the Manor in works might be Buckfastleigh? But there was never a 56, 51 or 72 class there IIRC.

The photos of the Manor are at Buckfastleigh inside the main workshop. The collection is slightly misleading as they are not all 7827 and the frames in red oxide look to be of 5239. That would explain the radial wheel set in the other photo. 5239 did make one or two visits to the works at Buckfastleigh, and if memory serves me right, hauled the Manor and I think 4588 plus a van over the mainline from Paignton in the late 70's. There were certainly several stock moves between the two lines that utilised one of the steam loco's working over BR under its own power. The Class 03 shunter D2192 even ran engine and van from Buckfastleigh to Paignton in 1978 I think, the van being required to ensure the loco operated track circuits.

5239 would not have a radial wheel set.

The wheel set behind is surely a 4'71/2 rather than a 5'8" one though, so assuming same loco could only be 56 or 72. However couldn't just the wheels have been at Buckfastleigh, not the whole loco?

Quite right ignore my last bit about 5239 - a senior moment there I'm afraid. Having looked again the frames and wheelsets appear to be another location, so maybe Didcot?
