I know there are various postings on the forum about Bulleid tenders but I have not been able to pin down specific information here or on the net about these two.

    Questions are:
    1. Tender 3119 a Bulleid 5000 gallon (which ran with 35005 Canadian Pacific for a long time) had a new tank at some date in the past. Did the new tank have an increased water capacity and did this alter the coal capacity? (and when was the new tank fitted?).

2.Is the tender owned by the Boscastle Locomotive Group (and which has been coupled to various Bulleid locomotives over the years) number 3348 a Bulleid 6000 gallon tender.

    3. Is it correct that tender 3119 was bought from Barry with 34039 and tender 3348 was bought from Barry with 35005 and they were later exchanged when both locos were based on the Great Central Railway? I have seen this mentioned on the forum but wondered if anyone could confirm it and give a date.

    Thanks

    Justin

Here is the page on Bulleid tenders from the SLL Website:

    http://www.southern-locomotives.co.uk/Class_Details/Bulleid_Light_Pacific_Tenders.html

It refers to 3119 which was used with 34072 257 Squadron in the early 1990's. There are a lot of photos in the 2013 Gallery showing the new tender for 34072 being currently constructed, e.g. https://picasaweb.google.com/116839141471298057728/Restoration2013#5849904005393234434 and likewise photos of Sir Keith Park's new tender in the Restoration 201o and Restoraion 2011 Galleries: https://picasaweb.google.com/116839141471298057728

If hot rivetting is your thing you'll enjoy this:

Thanks for you reply Nick but I think you are referring to tender 3319 not 3119

Old thread time, I was talking to James Tawse of Boscastle fame last weekend and he confirmed that the tender they bought out of Barry and restored, was one which previously ran with 35005 in BR days, which is why they got swapped, and that tender left GCR with 35005. The origins of the one which remains with 34039 (originally restored for 35005) I’m less sure of but it’s a MN tender. It will apparently be getting a new body as part of the current restoration, to a different design.

My knowledge of tenders is pretty sketchy so I can’t help with numbers and histories but hope that helps.

The tender that was running behind Boscastle in the mid to late 1990's went out on loan in the 2000's but got increasingly "leaky". It came back to Lbro and the tank now sits at the very end behind the engine shed, near to the "Canal Bridge". The chassis is at the back of the engine shed being overhauled ready for a new tank.
