As a frequent visitor (and contributor) to the Drehscheibe-online.de forum, I have just come across an article on the above locos, in the historical forum, one of which is preserved, and one of which may still be in use. I have many memories of this class shunting around Crewe South.

Wow! Amazing. When it eventually leaves service I hope it can be brought home. That would fill a big gap in the history of shunter locomotives. I've forwarded the links to the Heritage Shunter Trust.

LFI at Arezzo have a fascinating collection of stock. Not as good as it used to be, but still pretty remarkable. Electric locos built in the 1920s still used in everyday passenger service for example! Sadly they've started going the same way as FS and have bought some E464 electric locos.

I've been to LFI three times to see 700.003, and only succeeded in seeing it once. I have some photos somewhere but they were prints from several years ago. I'll have to go back at some point.

Plenty of photos on Flickr of LFI that give some idea of their motley collection of stock, including in this group

To think that Santhia' (Cambiano) station is just a few hundred metres from my house... I never knew.

Ilvaporista - any chance of a current photo of the loco?

Thanks. Looks in pretty good shape for a loco of that age. Perhaps they would swap it for a Class 08 or 09?

Maybe the Museum would sell theirs instead?

re repatriation: it is surely more part of Italian history now than UK history.

Possibly true but as there are two in Italy, one already in a Museum, it would surely be nice to have one back in the UK filling one of the "missing links" in UK shunter history?
