Good to see 5541 back, will it be auto fitted?

 

1450 & both autocoaches are due to leave the DFR before the start of the 2014 season

That's a shame. One less reason to visit the DFR.

 

Where are they off to, overhaul or another railway?

 

Was told may go to Severn valley 232 is there in march for a charter with 6435 a shame they are not staying on the DFR as i have enjoyed a few trips on them over this line a good contrast between the GWR one and the BR one a trip on these was in my opinion as near as you could get to 1960s on this lovely branchline.

 

Bit unsure why they would go to the SVR though, limit use they would see. 232 is Bodmin's, 238 is Chaffinch.

 

Yes it is Chaffinch going to the SVR for the charter agree that the svr would see limited use but there are not many options for running due to limited capacity Bodmin only seem to use theirs on galas and the South Devon seem to do the same.

 

Don't forget 5541 returns to traffic early next year....! It's looking great in the shed and it's not even finished yet.

I was driving the 14 (the diesel version....) on Sunday and was amazed at the lineside clearance that has taken place in the past few weeks. The views are really opening up along the line.

 

There are a number of "Branch Line" days planned on the South Devon Railway during 2014 and the auto trailers are expected to feature in a number of these, particularly later in the year once 6412 has returned to service. Auto workings will also feature at various events throughout the year too. Work is taking place on both the "SDR" trailers W225 & W228, and of course 5542Ltd are making good progress with W233 so the prospect of some sandwich workings is something to look forward to at some point.

Is 9681 still operational?

 

No it was withdrawn for overhaul last October when around 20 boiler tubes were discovered to be leaking.
