Does anyone know what the current status of Co-Bo D5705 is? I have found some information within the progress reports on D8233 as the groups are pooling some resources and labour. Any recent pictures?

A bit of news about D5705 on Preserved Diesels.

D5705 will be lifted on 24th September for removal of bogies for restoration (for which they require copious amounts of cash!).

I am really looking forward to seeing this unique loco finally restored to working order.

Me too! Although the Lancaster 'spotters' derided them when they were shedded at Barrow, I have, in retrospect a bit of a soft spot for the old Metro Vics. :)

My old bowling Captain was a driver at Barrow so had many a turn on the Class 28s. He did say some nice things about them but not many! Though am sure he'd love to of seen one running before he died. I am also looking forward to seeing it run

Just wondering how D5705 is coming along as there hasn't been a update for about a year on the website.

There's an update in the latest RI, Mike. Basically bogie work is progressing, engine is safely stored for the moment. Next objective is to get her back on her wheels, then move on to the engine. Slow but steady, I think :)

    Hi all,

The latest from D5705, currently under thorough restoration at the East Lancashire Railway, Bury. Progress has been steady since it was reunited with it's bogies. The Air system is almost completely restored, with the brake frame complete in the loco. The electrical cubicle has had it's components (Reverser, Load Reg, Relays, Traction Motor Contactors etc) overhauled and back in to the cubicle. End to end wiring is almost complete too, with the majority being terminated. The south end cab is under restoration. The boiler/generator end of the loco has been fully repainted and the engine room end has had some electrical equipment bolted down. There has been some welding to the bodywork where rot had set in. There has been some re-manufacturing of some components due to some being missing or damaged. The V12 we had for spares has been completely stripped of useful components and the V8 is almost down to the bare block. The generator will be sent off for repair soon and then the rebuilding of the V8 can commence.

As mentioned above, we have a webpage d8233.org.uk and FB groups/d5705
We also have a twitter feed #d5705 #c15ps
For those that are not aware, D5705 is under restoration by the Class 15 Preservation Society on behalf of it's owners.

    Thanks for reading

    Rob Mason
