The track will be shortly be laid through the site of Bonwm Halt, adjacent to the A5. See latest update on the Corwen website.

Seeing how close the trackbed is to the River Dee, is flooding likely to be an issue, and is the land relatively stable? Hopefully you dont inherit a "Severn Valley" situation where sections of trackbed alongside the Severn tend to move down towards the river, due to the underlying geology, and are only kept relatively stable by constant attention to trackside drainage.

I am sure I saw somewhere in the beano that LR had taken remedial action on the riverbank on the operating section due to scour.

So slips due to water are "doing a Severn Valley" now are they:p

The new section does not have as many stretches close to the river as the existing line.

    http://corwenstation-new.co.uk/december-extension-update/4581222176

    Page updated on 15th December.

Not yet on the website is yesterdays news. The gap at Bonwm was fully connected by the volunteer work force. Llangollen railway is now 9.5 miles end to end.

There is still half a mile to lay, west of the Colomendy overbridge, but we need help to fund and purchase sleepers for this. See the donation part on the above website if you'd like to help us out.

Some excellent news that has prompted me to make a small donation towards the cost of relaying the final half mile into Corwen. The one thing that I think you may be missing out on is Gift Aid - I didn't see any mention of it when making my donation via PayPal.

    Cheers,

Thank you very much Mick! I agree with the Gift Aid thing but wasn't something I had considered at the time. The charge Pay pal makes for each transaction will be met by myself, so you can be assured all your money goes to the fund. Best regards.

Looking at the latest updates on the Corwen website there seems to be great progress being made despite the weather. It must be a nightmare to try to plan any outdoor work at the moment. Have they given a revised target date for opening ?

I've heard that it is now June. The job has been set back because of Network Rail grabbing all ballast production for repairs to the Cambrian Coast line.
Due to there being no run-round loop in this phase, the loco-hauled trains into Corwen will have an auto-trailer on the end & will be propelled back as far as Carrog, where the loco will run round & haul the train back to Llangollen. The two auto-trailers are currently in the carriage works, the blood & custard one for minor repairs & a full repaint, & the chocolate & cream one for minor painting work. Both are being fitted with air horns.
