We now have three A4s at the Roundhouse!! "Bittern" arrived early yesterday evening to join her sisters "Dominion of Canada" and "Dwight D. Eisenhower". Mervyn and the team are now shunting everything into position ready for the weekend. The North American A4s will be at the top of the yard alongside A2 "Blue Peter". "Bittern" will be hauling passenger trains with 'assistance' from the Peckett and will slow down and pause for line up shots. A1 "Tornado", currently undergoing winter maintenance, will be on the turntable in the Roundhouse. "Vulcan" and the 03 will be hauling brake van rides in the yard. Along with the trade and society stands and the model layouts ("Grantham the Streamliner Years" in the Roundhouse running A4s and "Deepcar" in the Deltic Preservation Society depot running Deltics), Deltics on display in the bay platform and DPS depot, there will be plenty to see and do. On-the-day tickets will be available on both Saturday and Sunday and there is a free bus service from Chesterfield railway station. Plenty of car parking too and a minibus service from the further car park (or a 5 minute walk) for those who need it.

Nope, mine turned up safe and sound last week!

I would suggest that you print off your booking confirmation email as proof, and take it with you if they haven't turned up by tomorrow.................... I'm sure Alexa will confirm that that would be enough to let you in!

    Did you get it sorted?

Because if you have, then the last thing to sort out is the weather and pray that the forecasters have got it wrong or that the wet stuff comes late in the day................................. time for Alexa and Co to start doing a sun dance methinks!!

Thanks Duty Druid - I'm doing my best :) but my dancing shoes are nearly worn out! At least we aren't in as bad a situation as the poor people down at Dawlish. My heart goes out to everyone in the rest of the country affected by this awful weather.

Zep108 - I can confirm that Ticket Factory have now posted out all tickets. For anyone who doesn't receive their tickets before the weekend, please print out any email confirmation/reservation number. We will be able to match it up with records we have in order to allow entry.

Neale - disabled parking - this is immediately adjacent to the gatehouse. Our stewards will be able to direct you to the correct parking area. The main car park is a short (5 minute) walk away but we are also running a minibus service from it for anyone who needs it.

My gallery from yesterdays charter at Barrow Hill can be found on the link below. Weather didn't play ball which was a real shame but a big thank you Russ Hillier for setting it up and Geoff and Simon for their efforts with the lights. Sadly I had to leave before the night shoot

Three A4s at Barrow Hill 6 February 2014

The powers that be at Barrow Hill have made an opportunity out of the need for the two visiting Gresley A4 Pacifics to move from NRM York to the Shildon satellite this month. They arranged for Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower to make a southerly diversion for a few days, and invited Bittern to call in on its way north.

So the stage was set for a huge open weekend, but Russ Hillier secured an exclusive charter day two days before. The lads were putting up the barriers ready for the weekend but Russ had them removed so that the photters had unfettered access to the the three A4s and their resident cousin Blue Peter.

This made a fantastic morning with a watery sun softly lighting the engines, but then heavy cloud and later rain arrived so I beat an early retreat. Many thanks to Russ, and to Melvin and all the Barrow Hill gang, for an excellent event.

Some fabulous pictures from yesterday's photo charter - thanks gentlemen for posting them on here. We're now in the middle of another photo charter, having welcomed a UK Railtours rail tour during the day, along with a Press Preview Day.

Looking forward to seeing the photographs from today, which (with apologies to pjhliners and sidmouth) saw the Roundhouse and the A4s bathed in glorious sunshine throughout the day!

We are now looking forward to greeting even more visitors over the weekend. On the day tickets are available for both days: adults £13.50, children £7.00 and families (2 adults and 2 children) £34.00.

Oh yes, and we'll be on BBC 1 Look North at 10.25pm tonight!

Having been today, if you're in any doubt as to whether to go, do! A number of us had a fabulous time today as did those on the railtour, and don't forget - Barrow Hill is full of gems, 251 looked great outside, and away from the big engines, "Vulcan" is a little gem, the beer is excellent, and there was even a steamroller for me to get excited about.

    Hi

I travelled on the UKR charter to Barrow Hill on Friday; I've added my photos to here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/steam60163/sets/72157640645057723/
(the steam are part way through the collection, as I took some enroute of various diesels, etc at Derby)

Top day out.... well done to the organisers.

    Cheers,
    Alisdair
