Stuart, you should have seen the colour of Trooper after tramping back to the car and later at Newbiggin, had to hose him down when we got home

Too much tiddleo and not enough video from your WCME trip Ralph?

I could upload my video clip of the final minutes of the climb to Shap taken from 6 coaches back on the train if I knew how to.

Anyway I am now going to sit down quietly and try to work out the edbh fig for that last mile of the climb.

And by the way I would not have said conditions on Shap were that bad. The sun came out at intervals though it was cloudy and damp at the top.

I make the decision not to take the camera with me as it was meant to be a social outing, and anyway we got lumbered with a middle coach, so a bit too far away from the action. I promise to do better next month. John did take some shots though, so maybe he will post some of that.

Just a bit more info, the speed and height profiles which are aligned vertically, the first small peak from the left is Low Gill with the larger on obviously being Shap summit.

So finally here are my efforts from Saturday. I'm afraid it is a bit wobbly in places and some wind noise too despite the dead kitten - 'twas reet blowy up there!

Nice shots Ian, I can report that it was not blowy inside the train and the ale was going down well during both those clips. :) I was looking out as we passed Salterwath and did see this figure by the stone wall and thought, look at that poor cold soul braving the conditions to get his pictures.....;)

Well it was worth it - especially if others enjoy the results too - I must say that as I battled to retain enough circulation in my fingers to operate the zoom I did fleetingly wonder which coach was coach F and hanker after a gluhwein :)

Looked like the best one to be on so far, Shap-wise. Footage from approaching Scout Green and the summit:

Great stuff - nice brackets to my own footage and you got that damn sun that we just missed at Salterwath! Did you have multiple cameras or did you chase from SG to the summit??

Thanks both, needless to say the weather was back to its worst for our afternoon shots. One day we might experience a whole day of half decent conditions!

Ian, no, there are 2 of us filming. Chasing from Scout Green to the summit would be ambitious even by my own standards ;)

1, Apologies for the volatility (If you saw the amount of ale on our table it would make sense)..
    2. after 3minutes my arms were cantilevered one holding me in, the other holding the camera out..

This video is about the sounds..

Starts at Scout Green and goes 6 minutes over the summit the sound action kicks in around 1m08s , but from 2m40 it starts getting good, but from 3.2os the next 2 minutes are among the best 3 cylindered 2 minutes of your life.

then compare it to the return..
There must be 2 royal scots and they swapped them at Carlilse for the bad one..

Let me be the first of very many to like that!

    Yes, truly wonderful.

I have heard better, but not often. My first 70 up Roundwood from a Winchester start with a West Country. An astonishing climb though Brockenhurst up to Lymington Junction with Gordon Hooper at the controls of a Merchant Navy, ( less than 2 minutes of noise), but followed by Christchurch up to beyond Pokesdown which was 2 minutes! 12 cars. 08.30 ex Waterloo.

And a most amazing thrash through Padeborn up to Altenbeken behind 012 100-4 that was my all time noisiest three cylinder roar.

But this one is now, and fresh into my memory thanks to the video clip.

    Many thanks indeed.
