    Meanwhile, down South..

MNLPS website states that Clan Line will be visiting the Mid Hants between 7th & 9th March.

UkSteam has a posted (provisional) return to Stewarts Lane on 10th March.

Anyone know how and when she's going to Alton?

The timing of 46115's test run last Thursday was apt. in the sense that it was 49 years to the day since she hauled the RCTS "Rebuilt Scot Commemorative" railtour of 13th Feb. 1965 (http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/650213rs.html) - which happened to include some of the same route (Blackburn-Settle Junction), albeit in the opposite direction. Apologies, this post may be of no interest to anyone, but the timing served as another reminder to me of how lucky we are to still enjoy 46115 (and many other loco's) in some of their old haunts. 46115 even looked a little '1965' on Thursday with a healthy level of muck over her paintwork; no bad thing in my book.

A great reminder, and I'm able to say, "I was on it," so next year perhaps West Coast could run a 50 year Anniversary Special, James are you listening. It's nothing complicated and with the original loco and the original route still available.

Good idea. Remember to ask for your 5% commission for the thought although I suspect you'd settle for a free ticket!

Double-headed light engine move with 34046 from Southall I'm led to believe; stays for the weekend and returns to Southall on 10 March according to sources.

And see Gavin Morrison's wonderful (apart from proofreading) book The Last Decade of BR Steam for a photo at Hellifield.

I hadn't actually noticed the date but am well aware of the tour (historically, of course, being only 14 months old, at the time!) and have amassed quite an archive of photos of it; like 'The Scottish Lowlander', it was quite a popular and well-remember trip.

I suspect the routing between Boar's Head and Cherry Tree might be a bit 'rough', though, and, inevitably, it would end up being a longer day out that you might at first imagine.

14 months!!!! thanks James that really makes me feel old as I was 22 at the time, however I think there will be many who will be prepared to put up with the length of the day, after all the Lowlander is not going to be a quick breeze round the planned route and I believe that is booking up well.

You must have some great memories from that Ralph. Have you seen PSOV's 'Settle & Carlisle: Then and Now' DVD - plenty of footage of the railtour on there, including on-board footage. Could be good for a game of 'Spot young(er) Ralph' ;)

Yes I realise that not quite all the route is available today, but I hope that a commemorative run will be considered. Perhaps the popularity of the Scottish Lowlander may help persuade the powers to be.

Got a copy now and it's well worth it, had a close look at the relevant section but cannot see myself.:(.

That's a shame - was looking forward to a game of 'Spot Ralph' ;) I agree the footage is excellent though - some lovely light at Hellifield and impressive scenes at Carlisle, together with that on-board.

So there I was waiting at a foot crossing for 60007 when a Network Rail worker appeared from the other direction, nice bloke, stopped for a chat about the A4s etc. When "Gresley" appeared in the distance he said "I'll get out of your way then" and proceeded to walk up the track! :)

Bad enough one of the Orange men cluttering up the view (couldn't you photoshop him out?), and No.7 turns up tender first to boot! Oh well, win some loose some........................
