41 mph at Ais Gill, I'd say an impressive climb....

So it was fire/coal on the outward and not the loco. Well done to the crew for getting it together at Tebay. And that brings me back to the start. If it was coal, then you know about that when you are bringing her round so if she left in a bad state then that is not particularly helpful. However, clearly what was done at Tebay sorted it for the next six miles, but possibly that was it and had SG been asked to climb another five then the problem may have reappeared. That said, the return looked ok. We just don't know whether the problem was coal, preparation or both. But this is not the first time, or the second or third even. I'm sure, of course, that this was not done deliberately and I'm also sure that nobody at Carnforth is happy that it's happened again. However, where is the learning over such things?

Ah - many thanks misread the other post. 41 at Ais Gill is also fine though!

Not long got back. After a not quite so good northbound performance to Tebay, it was a decent performance after there up Shap considering the standing start from Tebay reaching the summit at 25mph. Then for the return it was an excellent performance. Being sat in front coach for the return we were treated to a superb display and sound from the Scot. My parents were also on it down the posh end in Premier dining and they were extremely happy with the food and service today. :)

Very nice footage Austin. I saw the crowd assembled at Crossby from the service train before 46115, and as I got off at Kirkbyy Stephen, wondered whether you would manage to keep the sun. We didn't either at Waitby, but was full sun through the station and up to Birkett I believe!

Two from me today below: seen climbing Shap at Salterwath, in black and white since it unfortunately wasn't sunny on the train, and returning south at Stockber. A
thoroughly enjoyable day with some fantastic sounds. Clear and crisp.

    Richard

p.s. thanks to iancawthorne for the inspiration!

Thanks Richard, two great shots. (I would quite like to see the Salterwath one in colour though!)

They look pretty good to me Richard. 7604017 is my preferred shot of the ones at Salterwath.

It was, probably the best I've had. Only comparable run, perhaps behind 5043 when left on it's own after 6201 went sick. We ran the gamut today from despair almost at Tebay to mild astonishment the way we up Shap from a dead stand-and then that wonderful run back on the S&C. Almost the icing on the cake, the dismissal of the climb up Wilpshire...and of course the weather!
