Some engines appear to suit some liveries better that others and TR No.6 does in my view look good in green

I understand why it has to return to red for the rest of the season, but is there any chance it could be toned own a bit so rather than the bright "pillar box" red used last season, the red used could be that as used on TR No.3 with appropriate lining. No kid or parent seemed be bothered by the particular shade of red when TR No.3 ran as Sir Handle just as long as it has the name and face so I doubt they will that bothered about No.6 either. Especially as in the TV series and spin off books, magazines and models it is a mustard colour.

I just think TR No.6 might suit a slightly toned down red better as a livery

The previous red colour carried by No.6 last year was to see the Loco through the season after returning from overhaul. A more toned down red has been picked for this year, but will still keep Duncan's fans happy :)

Is there a reason 6 appears to be the favoured "Thomas" loco these days over other members of the fleet ?, I guess there might be a few complaints if 1 or 2 were turned out as Skarloey or Rheneas, but the Corris pair don't seem to take their turn as it like they used to.

TR No.3 ran as Sir Handel whilst TR No.6 was out for several years being overhauled and TR No.4 runs as Peter Sam occasionally. In the TV version and related spin offs Peter Sam is green so no need for a repaint.

Whatever your views on engines appearing as their Awdry characters in my view the TR has significantly improved its policy with regard to the engines appearing as such. In the early days they slavishly tried to follow the colour and lining in the books etc which did not look great in real life and meant that the “Awdry Loco” could not really run as anything but. I think the name was even painted on it very large letters.

Over the years it seems to have been acknowledged that provided the loco has a name and a face and is roughly the colour from the book or TV series then the imagination of young kids does the rest. Thus the “Awdry loco” is now painted, lined and named in a manner that enables it to be run in TR guise when not required to be the “Awdry Loco” which is mainly in school holidays

Having holidayed a lot in the area when I was young though I do now miss the red painted rods on some of the locos as this is one of the things I remember as a kid for some reason..

Rheneas and Skarloey do make their appearances on Duncan Day or any times Duncan is unavailable during the Peak service in Summer. Depending on which Locos are available, the Awdry characters on which were based on TR locos do make regular appearances.

It's always nice to have a regular Awdry character each year and thats 'Duncan'. The Awdry Loco I knew of when I was growing up was Peter Sam, so its nice the next generation has 'Duncan' to come and see each year.

I thought No. 2 does currently feature red rods?
...I accept that the others don't though.

I look forward to seeing the more toned down shade of red that No. 6 will return in.
Personally I like the shade of red applied to No. 2...

No.2 does indeed have painted rods.

There are lots of families looking forward to seeing Duncan return :)

The Talyllyn has launched a new Appeal today to fund a new 'Stone Blower' to relieve our aging tamper.

Please have a read, and if you can support it would be gratefully appreciated: www.talyllyn.co.uk/stoneblower

Presumably you have looked at what might be hanging around in South Africa? A couple of n.g. lines have found this to be useful.

Stoneblowing is a useful maintenance procedure that saves having to utilise the tamper for work on "dropped joints" and other minor faults. Can also be done without the need for a full possession of the line.
Yes a new tamper would be wonderful, cost wise at present prohibitive unless someone can find a suitable machine available in good working order delivered to the UK for less than the cost of the stoneblower.
