Geisel definitely seems back in place from that picture. Hope all testing is passed with flying colours. Must be nearly quarter of a century since Wells last ran.

Confirm Geisel in place when I saw inside her smokebox a few months back.

And at a stroke that improves forward vision whilst also, I believe, helping with steaming generally. Although we are talking about a Bulleid boiler so when has that ever been a major problem?

Was quite surprised 34067 didn't get the same upgrade during its restoration at Bury. Mr Adams of 34092 was heavily involved with getting Tangmere operational again back then. All the feedback seemed to indicate it improved the performance of Wells significantly from an already good standard.

A sight to gladen the heart. Well done to all concerned.

Interesting to see the high-sided tender.

34016 Bodmin is about to depart the MHR - will be back on the mainline in the not too distant future! SAM_4302_edited.jpg

Any indications as to the overhaul location please?

Edit: The question is answered in your post on another thread.

    --WCRC Carnforth.

Presumably bought by Mr Smith/WCRC rather than just being overhauled there?

Your presumptions merely add even more to the speculation and rumour!

Steve: I assume the word "add" is missing in your post above.

Sorry not aware of the "speculation and rumour", merely going by what the other poster had written.

    Add now added!

I've looked for it but I can't find any suggestion of 34016 being sold to WCRC/David Smith in the other post.

Yes sorry, my use of the word "presumably" was dubious, but I posed the implied question " has it been sold" because in recent times much ( but not all, ie "Leander") of the Carnforth work has been on their in-house steam fleet.
So perhaps wrongly I assumed a sale to Mr Smith. Agreed, without foundation.

I have no knowledge of the deal reached between John Bunch and WCRC, but I understand the intention is for Bodmin to join the WCRC main line fleet. I don't know whether this implies an outright sale to WCRC or not. Whilst it is sad to see 34016 leave the Mid Hants at least she is going to get another spell on the mainline ( I remember working in the kitchen on a couple of the Daylight Railtours Sunday lunch mainline trips, one with CP and one wth Bodmin) and also in a way this departure marks the "beginning of the end" of all the ugliness that surrounded the falling out between JB and the Mid Hants. (As demonstrated on another thread here regarding the WSR, such disputes/clashes/brouhaha are never pleasant for members/volunteers, let alone the actual people directly involved)

Anyway, in three days time, there will be a MN and both an original and rebuilt WC in action on the Mid-Hants, something very positive for all Bulleid fans!

It is sobering to think that 34016 has been at the MHR longer than its entire Southern/BR/Woodhams and Quainton periods put together. I remember it coming the other way, off the low loader back in the 70's.
Sad to see it leave the MHR, but at least Bodder's has on the face of it, a brighter future ahead.

Sad to see Bodmin leave the Mid Hants but at least she has a bright future ahead. Does anyone know if Winston Churchill will on display this weekend?

If not her, seeing the N on display a final time would be nice... I've said it before but still find it strange they went to the effort of repainting her in 2012 for that gala and ever since she's been more or less out of view (excluding passing trains or from the road bridge) in the headshunt.

I for one will miss seeing Bodmin! Had many a good firing session on her!
With regards to Winston Churchill being on display this weekend, there was an update on the Midhants website with WC's Tender being rubbed down in readiness for a repaint. So unless she is going to be paired with another tender or just solo with out one, I would say no.....
Don't you just love all this speculation! :D

Having seenWinston Churchill in the back of the wheeldrop shed last week, the loco is mid way through the cosmetic overhaul so I doubt will be on display outside.

Currently its bogie is outside the main loco shed on the middle road, and the tender in the paint shop.

It maybe the wheeldrop demos are on at this gala and therefore possible to get to see her that way?
