Thanks Alan PM on it's way.

Not quite sure where we will be going Fred as we don't have much time, will make Shap if possible but maybe Oxenholme, or somewhere just beyond there.

Weather looks set fair, so hopefully dry rail on the banks. Still with Shap, you never know. Got it's own micro-climate.

Afternoon, Does anyone have a link for the realtime trains for this trip, for some reason it wont allow me to view.
    Cheers

Just checked RTT - she's over the top & through Garsdale, maintaining 5 early after a 5 early departure from Appleby. Looks like a good run so far today.

It looks and sounds as if the driver was unable to close the regulator and had to start the sanders to try to stop the slip.
Edit - I'm pleased to have be reassured that that's not what was happening.

Good stuff again Stephen, Gordon Hodgson certainly knows how to make the Scot shift and nice drop of sun at Birkett

I sincerely hope not as that's a surefire way of buckling some rods. (A Merchant Navy allegedly met an early fate in steam days because of that error). Looks like he opened the drain cocks. Isn't there a flang lubricator at that point as well?

You can see the flange greaser by the slightly greyish patch on the inside rail. Thats where she slipped. Wonderful sound though! (not the slipping)

I'm afraid no slips on Wilpshire but just a stunning performance by the Scot and crew.

    Hope you enjoy.

Well it does not look or sound like that to me,
it looks well controlled, when the regulator is shut there is still steam in the system and so there is a time delay,
also when the wheels pick up (slip) the load comes off the drivers enough for the steam that is in the chests to accelerate the wheels away for a moment.

What i want to say, and from the drivel some of you were pouring out from the first couple of trips i get the feeling you would choke if you said it,
    is
well done Mr Smith and all the guys at Carnforth you have unleashed an awesome spectacle for us all to drool over.
