    What's that horrible squeaking noise the 450's make when pulling out of stations? I remember them doing this when they were used on the Reading/Waterloo services whilst I was waiting at Earley Station for steam specials. I'm sure the current Junipers do not do that.
    Bring back the 2Bils I say.

    Only because the Southern were never in the position to have to use all the coal in the tender with their comparatively short journeys. :p

    So why is it that on one of the 2 runs I did behind Tangmere some years back, she had to be coaled during the tour from the supermarket car park at Morecambe..... Coaling at Morecambe 0077_800x600.jpg

    So explains why Braunton needed water at Saunderstead in early November, on the way back from Bluebell (24 miles)… whilst sitting on the rear of the train..
    44932 was on the front and didn't get much help from behind.

    Re Tangmere - That's a fair point and we do know that in the 1948 Loco Exchanges, the unrebuilt WC/MNs were the most expensive on coal and water of all those involved. Neiether do good combustion and Tangmere go hand in hand.

    Re Braunton - The issue there, as I recall, was that Braunton did not take water where it was supposed to earlier on, hence the top up.

    45231 which came off the Buxton Spa Express and there is a path from Brewery Junction see http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U50520/2014/03/15/advanced
    There is a path from Buxton for 44871 and 45231 see http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U50519/2014/03/15/advanced which passes Brewery junction and stopped nearby at thorpes bridgre junction for 24 minutes.
