And much the same back as well. Plenty of time to watch the other trains go by. Perhaps we should accept that this is the best that NR can give steam charters nowadays.

Little did those of us who were on it at the time with Tornado realise that 3 hours and 12 minutes including one stop and with a 75 mph ceiling would be as remarkable on the ECML as it now clearly was.

What you do not realize is that these times are arranged to allow photographers to see the departure from Kings Cross and then drive to York and have a lesuirely lunch before seeing the train arrive;)

Forgot to mention, although the timings would allow a detour to Chatsworth for lunch the pocket would not:(

No, no, no - take the East Coast train from Kings Cross and you get a passing shot as well when you overtake the special. Better still, stop off and change trains a few times and you will get the special going past and be able to overtake again.

You see, those who say mainline steam isn't run for photogrpajhers are just plan wrong:);)

    All right, I'm going......

Yes, that was fun but I was also on the 2008 Coronation which did it in around 4hr. I would be happy with that again.

Very pedestrian but one hour ten to knock off for watering going down but only forty mins on the up.

Pedestrian indeed. The 2010 Coronation did it in only 3 hours 20 min and that was with two stops. You do wonder why we suddenly seem to have slipped to such a dire state of affairs with timings.

I remember the Tornado run very well as part of the support crew. Things on the ECML were not going too well that day and it was 2+hrs in Grantham DGL or get on with it. We were on time and we did. Sensible decision all round.

A fabulous sight this morning. Slightly too close for comfort with a stopping service right next to us nin the platform, but at least we didn't get bowled out!

The sun was going in and out of the odd cloud too....

    Cheers,

Thanks. Was a bit hazy when I got there but the light improved steadily and was absolutely cracking until about 10 minutes before she was due when a combination of high cloud and jet contrails caused it to drop markedly so I thought "here we go again." Fortunately it recovered somewhat by the time 60007 crossed the viaduct.
