The WTT for tomorrow gives details of a near normal service. Not a bus service in sight.
We've not seen a timetable like this for months. <BJ>

This is excellent. One has to assume there will be cameras at Dawlish this morning to capture these historic scenes. One of those times we can be grateful for rolling news, i.e. not when a Royal Baby is due, : )

Let's hope that not too much freight traffic has been permanently lost. I wonder whether there will be another train for the Teigngrace logs? A local friend told me that there are a lot of logs there, but will they be taken up to Exeter Riverside?

I believe that there is a steam special to Kingswear on 10th April.

    From BBC News...

That's alright then! I guess the sea will have to find a different bit of the line to wash away next time.

...but well done to NR and its contractors for getting the line open again far quicker than I expected.

Absolutely, but this stretch of line remans vulnerable to the sea with the continuing likelihood of temporary closures for safety reasons when the weather is bad. NR has acknowledged this with the use of ballast that will be more resistant to the waves that will continue to wash over the track at times. So let's hope that all this talk about resilience includes ongoing discussions about a diversion/alternate route. The hole has been repaired but the sea has not gone away so neither has the problem.

Interesting that today Tim Smit (Eden Project/Heligan) suggested that some HS2 funds should be diverted to secure a permanent rail solution for the south west. And that is a fair point. At least trains run currently 24/7 to the Midlands and north west which is more than can be guaranteed for the south west. It feels as though the people who were most affected by the line closure are not going to let the Government off the hook on this one.

The Network Rail New Measurement Train (NMT) has just passed through Bristol en route to Penzance.
As well as checking the condition of the track in the west country perhaps it will also check the necessary
clearances for future steam loco movements throughout the region. <BJ>

It certainly generated an awful lot of froth on many rail forums! :p

Unless I'm mistaken, the line has already been formally opened on 4th April by David Cameron,
Network Rail chief executive Mark Carne and, not forgetting, the 'Orange Army'. <BJ>
