Last weekend, the Tanfield Railway held it's first Great War Weekend, with the Durham Pals living history group. Also in attendance were the 29th Field Kitchen, Royal British Legion, and Durham County Records Office. Tom Fryars also brought along his superb 1918 Crossley Tender, 1915/16 Phelon & Moore Royal Flying Corps motorcycle, and replica Royal Flying Corps aircraft trailer. Motive power for the weekend was Hawthorn & Leslie No 2 0-4-0ST of 1911 for both days, joined by Robert Stephenson No 48 'Sir Cecil A Cochrane' 0-4-0ST of 1948 on the Sunday. The Tanfield Railway was the perfect setting owing to the late 19th/early 20th Century character of the line, and especially for me as an ex-North Eastern Railway line

"Come to the cookhouse door, boys, sniff the lovely stew" - well, actually it was sausages

As you can tell it was rather foggy all weekend - this was Sunday morning!
