Doesn't Harbour Station look terrific with the new signals? 1,000 foot platform, adjacent 12 - coach trains; it's the Manchester Victoria of the narrow gauge. I feel the stirrings of a long - dormant urge to go trainspotting again!

Very impressive, can't be many narrow gauge places with full blown signalling in the UK.

Is there a platform canopy in the future planning for the new platform? I could imagine a few passengers getting a tad wet in a sudden downpour!! ;)

We've put the foundations in for three platform shelters but we haven't got the money for them yet. Expensive business, building stations.
In related news, we started the public consultation phase of building a new station at Caernarfon yesterday. Should have draft designs in a month or so.

Glad to hear about the Caernarfon Station at last, can't wait, it is the one part of the line that just doesn't befit the line, it's a bit of a yard type look.
Porthmadog is looking good now though and will make a good interchange station. Didn't realise there wasn't funds for the shelters I thought they were all covered in the budget.

Now that you've established procedures for street running, how about heading off through that tunnel at Caernarfon...?

Hudswell Clarke No.972 has arrived on the F&WHR and yesterday completed a run from Dinas to Porthmadog.

I was wondering how K1 is performing now since her valve timing modifications, etc.? Are there any plans for her to form part of the regular fleet (obviously not on NGG16 length trains)?
Would love to see her in action. Is she the only operating compound in Great Britain? 'Merlin' is back in action in Ireland, but I can't think of any others in GB (miniature excepted).
(Sorry if this should go on another thread/already answered. I did try to search, but "K1" is too short!)

I understand that most Mallets are compounds; Statfold has two working examples.

K1 Will be running all three days of the early May bank holiday at the WHHR in Porthmadog, albeit with much shorter trains than it would pull on the RhE. Come and see us, there is plenty going on! K1, LYd2 Diesel and GERTRUDE all out on the main line, Drive a diesel (GLASLYN) in the yard, model railways, Sunday Evening Jazz, Beer and BBQ, £15 Drive an engine on Saturday evening (one single trip up the main line with GERTRUDE). Why not combine it with a visit to the F&WHR who also have an event running over the same weekend. The lines around Porthmadog will see a considerable number of train moves over these three days!!! An experience not to be missed.

    Transported the "proper" way? ;)

...transferred to standard gauge at Tywyn, moved via notwork rail to Porthmadog, transferred back to narrow gauge and shunted through the town to B'Lodge? :D

If only.... Slight problem of missing river bridge at Llandecwyn on the Cambrian, lack of suitable rolling stock to carry such a load (in gauge), and no suitable freight operator up the coast....

    Aww, minor details!

...although I appreciate DMUs aren't really suited for mixed pickup goods - need a special trip with one of the 37s, and possibly borrow suitable rolling stock from NRM.
Mmm, missing bridge might take a tad longer to organise! Ok, use a road pram for delivery, rely on the railway for the return journey? :)

not the first time Porthmadog has done repairs to the Talyllyn fleet! Morris Evans helped out in the early 50's when the FR was closed, plus the Britannia Foundry did repairs in the late 1930s and early 1940s. but first time a Talyllyn loco has been to Porthmadog! wonderful pics and thanks for posting though the damage to TR No.1 is very sad.
    cheers,
    julian

Really looking forward to the event this weekend, just out of curiosity will any slate / gravity trains run over the weekend as I can't see it mentioned anywhere on the gala website?

Any comments on K1's performance? What sort of train is she suitable for on the RhE mainline?
