This is just the opening thread to give some details about this years gala at the MNR.

We have moved the event forward a month from July to June. This year the event will run over 4 days. Current plans are aimed at the Thursday seeing two visiting locos working on a special themed day, with the possibility of some photographic specials.

For the Fri-Sun we will run an intensive service utilising what we think will be 4 engines. Two of these are confirmed and the other two are at a stage of detailed negotiation. We will announce them asap, but are currently talking to magaines about potential sponsorship so will hold fire for a few weeks. It is our current INTENTION that all locos will be ex-LNER.

I hope we can welcome many of you to the railway and please feel free to contact me for any information.

I should think N2 1744 is one of them as GCR has said that she is going to the MNR for the Summer...

'before going off to Mid Norfolk for the whole of the summer'.

Just had an email from railway mag to say 45699 and 46115 will be running on the mnr at the end of May. It is the April issue though!

Galatea and the Scot don't have anything on their schedules for that weekend, so maybe.

I hope Mayflower makes it out onto the mainline for some charters. I guess she will be one of the 4 locos.

Can I please ask the mods to separate these posts into two threads?

The West Coast gala will be May 30th - June the 1st and feature 46115, 45699 and either 44932 or 48151.
The Eastern gala will be 26th - 29th June and feature the N2 and hopefully a named Eastern 2-6-0 from the same designer, plus hopefully some further guests.

Looking forward to both events! Will be great to see 46115, 45699 and 44332/48151 close up rather than at the blur of mainline speeds!

A4 Union of South Africa and K4 The Great Marquess " requested"plus N2, according to Heritage Railway Mag. Guessing B1 Mayflower might be the 4th? Looks good, subject to all the usual.

A K2 from the batch that was sent to Fort William. Brilliant! Where did you find that hidden away? :)

Come on the please people of natpres, help me out. Has 61994 been to Norfolk before? Just wondering if this is a first time visit for it?

The fourth visitor will be announced as soon as possible. The three Gresley machines will star in a photographic day on the Thursday.

So, an update on this event.

The N2 and K4 are sorted, and we just waiting for a thumbs up from WCR/NR for 60009 to visit. These three Gresley locos will be used for an open photographic day on the railway. We are hoping to do some unique things so keep your eyes peeled.

There is a fourth visitor under negotiation but the owner has held back from signing the agreement, so for a while we will have to keep it quiet. A fifth visitor is unlikely, but possible and would be something very different.

Anyone want to do a morning/evening photo charter?

For the first time at a steam event, we will have a small beer festival at Dereham station, with 8-10 locally sourced real ales. On the Friday there will be a Fish and Chip train, whilst there will be a Premier Dining train on the Saturday. Please contact Dereham station or the web for details.

Our event was a huge success last year, and we are hopeful of this event going equally well. Please consider coming down to the HRA's Railway of the Year.

If you have any questions/requests. Please feel free to ask me.

    Kieran
