As some of you may know this year marks the 175th anniversary since the arrival of railways in Derby. To help celebrate the LMS Carriage Association have been given permission from the British Film Institute to share a film that shows carriage building at the Litchurch Lane works.

The film, made by the LMS Railway in the early 1930s, depicts the construction of a Corridor Third from the raw materials to the finish vehicle. Although the original film was silent, a commentary and sound effects have been added to breath new life into the film.

Hope you all find it interesting and entertaining.

Interesting to see how things were done in those days. PPE! cloth cap and waistcoat. Good for 30 years - well my consist last Sunday and again Wednesday was TO 27218, TO 27270,TK 2300, BT 26880, BUF 149, CK 24617 and TK12992. 211t of Derbys finest ( well one might nave been BRC&W). if you are wondering about the weight 2300 is the odd one out at 31t

Wow! Excellent! Any chance you can switch the points at Kidderminster and keep going up to Derby? Hehehe. It would be an amazing thing for some Derby products to all come together in this 175th year of railways in Derby....but I can dream on I guess.

    Very interesting film clip.
I remember seeing similar techniques at York Carriage works.
In the 80s in particular in the wheel assembly, retiring and wheel lathes.

Physically no problem. It would be the paper trail that would preclude these vehicles running on NR. I have no doubt that the rake would easily pass fitness to run.

However where would SVR put its passengers. Sunday saw 6 maroon MK1, 8 carmune & cream MK1, 6LNER teak+1MK1 as well as 7 LMS and the 5 car dining set.Just a normal day really.

EDIT I forgot the two car dining set ex Bridgnorth whivh is a MK1 kitchen and an LMS dining car added to the 6 maroon MK1s

I wonder if they still do that sort of thing at WABTEC in Donny? I remember going to an open day in...err..2003? and seeing a shed load of wheel sets there.

Errrrmmm...well you could have an 1800s weekend at the same time and put the passengers in wagons ;) Hehehe. Ok, I'll get mi coat... :)
