    hi
    new to this forum
whilst dropping off some items to auctions I have noticed this station sign coming up for auction at a local auction house and wonder if anyone
can give me any information about the sort of money its worth would not like to over pay
the sign is 12 foot long and three foot high in 2 sections enamel finish with some damage but the letting is clear
its abergavenny is 10'' tall letters and underneath it say Monmouth road
in br western region brown with cream letters
have found a little info so far and its been suggested to me it my have been on the good sheds on the lead into the station but its so big that seam logical
I wonder is anyone has any info or can tell me anything about could not find any photos showing it in situ
the auction is not till the 12th of april so have a little time to try and find out more had some good bit before from the auction to try and see what my limit should be

any help would be great have bought some nice stuff from this action house in the past but I knew more about them
    thanks
    billy

I think this Running in Board used to be mounted on a fence in a Garden that backed on to the railway just off the end of the platform on the Up (the Hill) line at AGV. - is it at a local abergavenny auction house?

    hi
thanks for the help could not find any photos
someone else has told me the station was only named Monmouth road from 1948-1956
so cannot of been up long perhaps the reason for the lack of photographic evidence
the auction house is in Herefordshire
it might be a bit big for me but then again it must be the only one?

    What did it fetch?

I know a bit about the history of this sign - it was recovered from the station in the mid 1970's along with the "Passengers must not cross the Line" by a local school railway club, for the princely sum of 50p! The next time I saw it was on ebay about 10 years ago when it sold for £120, I believe.
