Well there might be more room at Southall now that Jeremy Hoskins has bought LNWR Crewe from Pete Waterman.

I cant see how, Southall is the stabling base for engines working in the south, To move his fleet to Crewe would involve some lenthy LE+ POB running, if they were working tours from london, it would give Hoskins his own workshops, and if he prefered to , i would guess that in future Crewe would see most if not all the overhauls happening there, i wonder, would rileys relocate to crewe?

Kind of makes good business sense for JH to acquire the business, it ensures Crewe's future as well as giving him a "one stop shop" for all the needs of his loco fleet.

And the needs of preservation also. I would imagine that JH will probably invest in increasing capacity and throughput in the medium to long term.

do you think we might actually see work being done on 46100 at long last?? Rileys are after new premises, i think we could well see LNWR being turned into his(JH)'s prefered centre, so if you see 35027,35022 and bits of Shaw Saville, turning up at Crewe then i would not be surprised, but what does the take over of the business mean to any outstanding work Crewe have on the go, and what about the rest of the centre?

Not having seen any kind of press release, yet, all I can say is - time will tell..... though you're most likely right!

Do you think Rileys would move in? I don't.... I think Riley will be looking to stay local to Bury as that's where his workforce is, and they might not want to move or commute that far!

Its perfectly feasible, BUT there is already a workforce employed there.............

As for bits of his loco's turning up there, let JH get his feet under the table first!! Personally, I can't see any outstanding work being affected, as that is a secured source of income for the business, and really would be "biting your nose to spite your face"!!

well who says JH Is keeping LNWR crewe at the hc? He has bought the conpany FACT. But the rumor is that he has also bought CreweDiesel depot. if that was true then one would presume that LNWR would be moved into the Diesel depot. which would be large enough to also house Rileys if he was to move (i thought he was moving to Ramsbottom tho?)

The changes at Crewe could be interpreted as a ruthless move to exploit any market uncertainty created by R&S situation.

When you are talking about Crewe Diesel Depot, do you mean the LNWR site south of Crewe Station? This was sold by Waterman to Arriva in 2008.

crewe diesel depot is south of crewe station but pete waterman owned the old carriage sheds didnt he? not the diesel depot. the diesel depot is between the freight avoiding lines and the station. at the bottom of the old horse landings.

but that is just a rumor and i have no idea if its true. google crewe diesel depot on google images and you can see the shed.

Wonder if JH/LNWR end up involved in repairing 71000 at some point?

Time for a single LNWR Works Sale thread, perhaps in the UK Heritage Railways & Centres section?

These locomotives (along with 5553 and 6634) are the assets of the Waterman Railway Heritage Trust and are not part of the LNWR Heritage Company. But...

This thread is no longer anything to do with 34073, and as Steamage suggests, it needs its own thread. Moderators please ?

Steam Railway 19 minutes ago LNWR CREWE JOINS HOSKING EMPIRE All change at LNWR Heritage Ltd, but the watch words are ‘very much Business as Usual’. Reports Keith Langston The news that Pete Waterman has sold his Crewe based London & North Western Railway Heritage Co Ltd boiler shop and steam locomotive heavy repair works to Jeremy Hosking broke on February 28 2014, and not surprisingly caused more than a few raised eyebrows within the industry. Over the recent years Jeremy Hosking has confirmed his commitment to locomotive preservation in the most practical of ways, by purchasing and maintaining a locomotive collection which is second to none and includes several mainline certificated engines. Furthermore the operation of the Southall Railway Centre and the setting up of his Royal Scot & General Locomotive Trust (2009) and the Locomotive Storage Limited, company (2013) are ample proof, if indeed proof were needed, that the future of LNWR Heritage Ltd will continue to be in good hands. LNWR Crewe Works Manager Steve Latham said “The message is business as usual at Crewe, we will continue to actively pursue locomotive building and repair work in the heritage sector, both at home and within the wider European market. Having had detailed discussions with Jeremy I believe that there will be productive and exciting times ahead at the Crewe workshops. The Southall depot will continue to be the main operating and servicing hub for the Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust mainline fleet of steam locomotives, but the Crewe site in addition to our other contracted work, will be the main centre for heavy repairs to the fleet’s locomotives and rolling stock”. The other big news from LNWR Heritage Ltd is that Jeremy Hosking’s company Locomotive Storage Ltd are in the process of negotiating a 25 year lease of the 8 road covered ex Crewe Diesel Depot with DB Schenker, the present owners. The impressive former BR steam and diesel, EWS -DB Schenker Rail repair and servicing facility incorporates a Heavy Lift Shop, Paint Shop and adequate holding sidings.

Can't say for sure but today 34051 is still in the wheel drop shed and the tender is in the paint shop.

There is now a Crewe Works thread in General Railway Chat, so this one can get back to 34073 (when there's anything to say...)
