Surely RA1 was the most restricted with only RA1 locos allowed on it. A route with RA9 classification could have any loco use it.

Are there any lines under RA5 on the modern network ?, seems to be a case now of if 37's can't go there, nothing can.

That is correct nowadays. Route availability is now numbered 1 to 10 with 10 being the least restricted (like the WCML) and as already said, 1 being the most restricted.
There are a couple of lines in Scotland currently on RA3, the most notable of which is Georgemas-Wick, which nothing larger than a 37 is allowed down.

Apologies ! You're correct as I had inverted the route restrictions. In essence no locomotive could operate on a line with a route classification lower than that of the locomotive concerned and RA1 was thereby the most restricted.

60009 passed Elgin at 1055 and climbed purposefully past Lhanbryde, though with no visible exhaust.

No steam for a year through there, then two A4 hauled trains in a couple of days.... :)

Its been slightly frustrating chasing my first Scottish part of teh Great Britian but oh boy what a pay off this morning at the Horseshoe curve, my very very lucky first visit, others were saying the best conditions in 20 years here. 62005 heading back to Edinburgh ontime.
