    I visited the big gun today and got to admit its an impressive sight. Wish it was displayed a bit better but still well worth checking out. I blogged all my photos and a bit of information on the gun here.

    Its also quite strange. I did some research on the size of the barrels and aswell as the rail guns the Royal Navy had 2 battlecruisers in its fleet which had 18inch guns in the First World War but in the Second World War the biggest we had was 16inch! For some reason we seemed to abanden the whole biggest gun race.

    The Washington Naval Treaty of 1922 IIRC limited the size of battleships and guns.

    According to the TV programme I saw, the carriage is really only a barrel proving carriage as it doesn't allow the same elevation as an actual howitzer carriage.

    Thanks for the info. I knew teh treaty limited the number and size of the ships never knew that the gun calbire was also limited. :)
