Whatever the problem with Tangmere is, it must have come to light a few days ago to arrange a replacement loco (and get it gauged for the route) in time for today's ECS. This maybe explains some of the changes of plan that we've been hearing about during the week?

2857 not 34053 on SVR so no BoBs on the tour rather than two.

So NR can find the time to gauge an A4 over a route to Taunton that feels like a considerable bit of new track to me but they can't gauge Clan Line over a short bit of the Pompey direct. Great that the swop has been possible and well done to WC for making the case. As for UKRT - what on earth went wrong there as DBS/MNLPS had sorted it I gather?

Is it that long since Bittern did Torbay Expresses on Bristol - Taunton though ?.

Just under the wire on that one then and they seem to have given the A4 a 'bye' on the leg down to Bristol.

Bittern did a number of runs around the W Mids inckuding a few trips on SVR. There must be more gauging info than one might imaginr

Maybe No 9 has been gauged prior to other tours in case the booked loco wasn't available, but wasn't needed. I suspect this would be less likely to happen with Clan Line for a number of reasons.

Why all the negative comments? Let's be grateful that a replacement loco has been found ..... and a bloody good one. :) <BJ>

Negative !! I'm delighted with the replacement. Though i'm sure there's a few Southern die hards, who don't share the same thoughts as me.

Exactly, not seen No.9 in the Glos area for a good number of years.

Yes - already said in #48 but it's always a worry when any loco doesn't make it out of the blocks on a trip. A logistical nightmare for TOCs. It was just lucky that in each case - Braunton and Tangmere - there happened to be something in steam/warm in the right place that could substitute. That's not usually the norm.

I can't really see any negative comments, Bill. Just a lot of satisfaction that a replacement loco has been found at short notice following the failure of Tangmere.

Sorry, but I can't see any negative comments about this at all anywhere on this thread?

I am sure there will be a few who will be disappointed its not the booked loco but as you say as least its running steam-hauled.

Having endured the purgatory of a 67 hauled Waterloo/Exeter Steam Dreams trip last summer(and a £20 refund!) when Clan Line failed its FTR, I speak with feeling on this!
