Following Braunton's withdrawal from The Solent & Sarum, I just wondered if anyone knows whether she's likely to work next week's Cath.Ex to Yeovil? Getting time on a wheel lathe at short notice could be a problem.

If not, I wonder which loco could deputise? The obstacles, as ever, are fitting in with maintenance, getting a support crew together, and getting the loco gauged for the route.

From LSL's fleet, I think Britannia is still at Ropley minus a set of driving wheels, while Nunney Castle and Bittern must be doubtful gauge-wise. Besides, Nunney probably wouldn't have time to get to London after her trip to Fishguard the day before, even assuming there was a crew available.

Tangmere would appear to be the obvious choice, and should fit the route - so long as NR can crunch the numbers in time.

What's wrong with it? It's only just come back & has been working The Golden Arrow.

Maybe 35018s will get drafted in but then no air braking?

That sounds less serious than the info I received.

If 34046 and 34067 are both unavailable for Sunday, 70013 'Ollie' returns to Southall on Thursday by lorry from Loughborough; enough time to get it railed and steamed up maybe(?)

Perhaps 34067 could use the tender off 34046 if compatible and solves the problem Tangmere reportedly has?

Would be good - wrong word - helpful to know what the problem is as I guess we won't get a definitive statement from the owner(s). If a tender problem then it is ironic given the efforts that seem to have been successfully made in getting the mechanics in better shape.

I am advised that 34067 will NOT be available for 1 June, and that 44932 is coming south to take Tangmere's place on this tour with diesel assistance.

Is it likely Tangers will be ready for the RTC ACE, I'm considering booking on it but won't if a Bulleid double bill is unlikely.

My understanding of the problem is that a thermic syphon has sprung a leak. Perhaps WCRC would care to confirm or deny?

I was not going to say anything, however now another train load of passengers are about to experience a disappointing day with a Black 5 being pushed by a diesel I really think that it about time those concerned with the loco. and the tour explain the problem.

I know you are going to say, here he is picking on me again, but I'll bet I'm not the only one who is thinking, with a comment like that is it any wonder WCRC/James refuse to answer...

Quite correct, one of your once in a blue moon posts & what is it? A dig at me, now what a surprise. No doubt other certain regulars who like "digging" at my posts will crawl out of the woodwork as well.
As for the subject matter, I don't think anything said on here will influence JS/WCRC. They keep stum whatever, always have done.
I don't want any of this "you don't travel" nonsense either, I'm still entitled to my opinion unless there is a forum rule banning non-patrons from saying anything. If there is can someone please show it to me.

You just don't get it do you, I would make the same comment to anyone who had made that post regardless of who they were simply because it's so pointless, and is only likely to again make WCRC wonder why they bother. But perhaps you don't care.
