Thanks Alan, certainly would be intrigued to know from which A4 the whistle is from.

With all these GWR locos now on the railway all the K&ESR needs to do is repaint their Mk1 carriages in chocolate & cream livery. ;)

.... which is (or is close to) an authentic K&ESR livery previously used in the early days of the original company and again in the early days of preservation when Maunsells and Birdcages, as well as Mk1s, were turned out in this colour scheme. Bring it back:)!

A picture of the Maunsells in choc and cream is in " Rails Across The Rother " 50 years of Achievement of The Kent and East Sussex Railway.

why not write to the general manager then asking if the railway has any plans to repaint the coaching stock , the reply will probally be that its all part of the "corporate image" my own personal preverence would be for GWR /BR chocolate and cream. as it will not look out of place what ever engine is on the front. the present dark green is not typical of any Mk1 livery

Ok. I'll also ask him to reintroduce the 1970s policy that locos in service must only be in KESR green or black. I remember at that time it almost seemed like a policy that locos still painted blue (left over from the 1960s livery policy) must be sold so Gervase, Charwelton, Hastings and Errol Lonsdale all had to go. Charwelton was allowed back only when it was painted brown, but it was the 1980s by then.

  6. I have just uploaded a video of 6619 running around its train at Bolton Abbey and you can hear the chime right at the end. I agree it sounds very much like an A4.

You can see and hear the video at http://steammemories.blogspot.co.uk/

  7. I have managed to find some video of 6619. I remember the discussion on here some months ago and knew I had some vids taken from the footbridge at Embsay whilst 6619 was here. They are on my blog now as I don't know how to upload vids to this site. They don't like ne advertising it so the clue is in my nic steammemories. Hope the close view of the whistle might help.
