4489 Dominion of Canada arrived in CN's Montreal yard this evening, (three weeks after it had docked in Halifax) and will wait for a CP freight to take it the short distance south to Exporail. Not all of the loco made it back however. A surprising decision was made to bend Exporail's policy regarding the sale of its artifacts, so allowing the ex BR parts that were removed during restoration at Shildon (Numberplate, Chimney, Whistle, Speedometer. warning flashes, etc) to be auctioned off in July.
    Cheers,
    Owd Sweedy.

    Surprised me too.

I'm surprised the decision has been taken to sell them, they may not be worn in current guise, but are still part of the loco's history.

If I remember correctly, 60010's chimney was off 60026 Miles Beevor. This was done when 60010 was getting cosmetically restored at Crewe Works, prior to departing across the pond.

So going off the recent discussion in another thread re.rail/aviation rebuilds, does this chimney offer the starting point for a rebuild of 60026? :)

With Scotsman's ex-A4 boiler still in existence too, you're about a quarter of the way there I'd say…!

Aren't the wheels from 60026 still around as well?
Although I don't fancy anyone's chances of getting hold of them.

Oh and despite the double chimney, it has to be Apple Green. :D

Yes, don't think 60007 will be happy having her wheels taken!

And there's a spare tender (with a water carrier several previous owners, very little use).
Is the auction in Canada or the UK ?

  18. You'd probably do better putting it towards a decent phone ;)

I hope it will be kept under cover and not left for that nice, shiny Shildon restoration job to become undone outdoors...?

I'm given to understand that she is to be displayed in their main hall, and that that car behind it has been adapted with a British style coupling, to avoid a repeat of that dent it had when it arrived.

Dominion of Canada was unloaded yesterday from the flat cars that brought her from Halifax, and yes the "buffer car", that was specially converted over the winter, was used successfully during the switching with the collections GP9.
Two "cherry pickers" were hired for the day just to allow easy removal of the Tarpaulins, minimizing the risk of scratching the paintwork. With one stationed on either side, the tarps were lifted clear and pealed
back. (see photo). When all was unwrapped the loco was towed down to Barrington Station for a photo Op.
4489 will be moved into the Angus Pavilion, to take up her position beside the Royal Hudson, on the weekend of 14th June. A big job, that will involve laying new track behind the building and switching around the
exhibits already inside to make room. There will be an official welcome home ceremony later, at a date yet to be arranged.
It was a real treat for me to finally see the stunning work that the guys at NRM Shildon had accomplished, what a transformation.

FYI Disused Branch, this locomotive has always been kept undercover during her 45 years in our museum, I see no reason why you should be concerned about that policy suddenly changing.
I would also add that back when she arrived (1967) there was very little undercover space available for the many large exhibits in the collection, yet 60010 was given pride of place inside the only building, whilst some
other less fortunate (Canadian) locomotives literally rusted away outside!
    Cheers
    Owd Sweedy.
