Apologies, seems I'm late to the party on this one. I've just read the rest of this thread. If this is rumbling on still a month after the problems started then I really think someone needs to take the issue more seriously and get some action from the Twitter team. It can be done. Right now it looks terrible.

The twitter feed is claiming to be back in CVR control. Can anybody confirm?

We have been taking it seriously, but as the account was accessed legitamitly in the eyes of Twitter they have so far refused to close the account.
That is why if you look at ALL CVR online material we have removed any links to the account, and we are still telling people to avoid using it for factual information. The Facebook and Website are being maintained by numerous volunteers, and so we can guarantee that any information on these is reliable and accurate.

I take it that means you aren't in control again contrary to what the twitter feed says as of half an hour ago or so.

Not as far as I'm aware, this is what the hacker did last time.

Claimed the CVR were back in control to attract attention, but then altered the account to claim we were shut. Until an official announcment is made please continue to only trust the Website & Facebook accounts.

How on earth can they take that position? If some high officer of the railway (e.g. Managing Director, or Chairman, or whatever) writes to them (with appropriate certification that they really are who they say they are), and says the account has been hijacked, surely that's all they need?

I must say, I am distinctly non-impressed with Twitter in this matter. Perhaps the next communication with them could include the data that their image among third parties is being significantly negatively impacted by their failure to act promptly in response to a security issue.

Twitter aren't responsible for internecine squabbling, and there's a established precedent for not taking responsibility nor being liable for the stuff people publish (no more than any other online service providers).

I'd either get legal advice, talk to the plod, confront the individual (who presumably is well known) peacefully but directly, or blow the whole lot off, set-up a new Twitter account with better password management.

Obviously one of the joys of twittering....they are making the money and to hell with anyone who gets upset with what is being published....unless perhaps if you are a 'celeb'

And you've drawn that conclusion based on what?

I have lots of sympathy for the CVR people, the person who has taken over their account is clearly a nasty individual. But it's not Twitter's fault that the CVR have lost control of their account. The guilty party has presumably either been granted access through a prior role at the railway, or taken it e.g. via a device that had been logged into the CVR's account; happy to be corrected, but they seem like the most likely scenarios.

Twitter has got over 250 million active users but only 3000 staff, and I doubt very much that many of them are involved in resolving account ownership disputes. That said, I'm sure if Twitter were contacted by the police they would be more likely to respond.

Another summer's day in the Churnet Valley. Replacing sleepers. Sometimes all goes well, other times they fight back. One took 20 minutes end to end another took nearly 90 minutes.

I see that the sleepers all appear to be wood? Are you all giving any thought to switching to concrete (as so many other lines have done)? I know they aren't as authentic (although some lines retain wooden ones in the stations, to keep 'the look'), but they are much less of a maintenance headache. (And I also concede it takes money and time to do the replacement, either of which you all might be short of.) Just wondering what the situation is, basically...
