10 coupled but 1 unflanged, giving it one of the tightest radii navigational possibilities of a mainline class...

"British Railways Standard Steam Locomotives" by E.S.Cox has a diagram showing 'Minimum Radius Curve Without Gauge Widening 6 Chains (4 1/2 Chains Dead Slow)'.

Not planned, but was once an intention. Loco is owned by a long term supporter of CVR, but there is no formal agreement for her to come to CVR (at present).

No space for her unrestored at CVR either, as we currently have TKH 2944 being readied for her return to service in little over a week's time, S160 5197 under overhaul (which will hopefully be finished early next year) and then 8F 48173 waiting for '97 completion so she can come inside the shed. We don't have much space for anything else to come and wait for it's turn in the restoration queue, as there's also the 47, 25 & 37 waiting their time as well.

In BR days 9Fs were banned from Cauldon branch, but no-one seems to be able to find any proof of reasoning for this. We do presume it's the wheelbase, but can't quite confirm this other than reports from local footplatemen of the time.

There was a rumour a while ago that the owner would like to see it visit the NYMR, and there were, probably still are, a number of supporters who joined the original owning group in the expectation that it would be an NYMR engine, so it would be good for them to see their wishes fulfilled, even if it was only for a visit.

Just looking at my LMS Lines Over Engines May Run 1945. The following were banned from Leekbrook Jct to Cauldon.
Class 5 4-6-0, Class 5 2-6-0 (taper boiler), Patriots, Jubilees, Scots, Big Uns and Lizzies, Stanier 2-8-0s, LMS 0-8-0s and Super Ds.
The same Classes were banned from Stoke Junction to Leekbrook, as well.
This probably explains why 5D Stoke had so many 4F 0-6-0s allocated.

Hmmm, I guess no one told CVR Black 5's, 8Fs and 7/ 8p's couldn't go that way..

Indeed one 8F rebuilt the line, and I had a black 5 banking the 8f on a 10 coach train on the opening day and I rode behind the a Duke and a West Country the same day...
4 rules broken on day one.

Little chance of Patriots, Jubilees, Scots, Big Uns and Lizzies or a Super D being seen at Cauldon however.

Indeed, looking further, it shows that the type of motive power used on NSR lines, other than the main line from Macclesfield to Colwich Junction, was very restricted. The only Classes banned from the main line were the parallel boilered Royal Scots, Big Uns and Lizzies. I presume that this was due to Chatterley tunnels.
There must have been a very good reason for all the restrictions on NSR lines. I wonder what it was?

    The allocation at 5D Stoke on 1. 1. 1957 consisted of 30 2-6-4 tanks, 33 4F 0-6-0s, 2 Ivatt 2 2-6-0s, 13 3F 0-6-0 tanks and only 2 Class 5 4-6-0s.

Is this restriction backed up by historical photos?
I have a nice oo gauge model of an NSR 4-4-0 at home.. Wouldn't have imagined it was a light weight or slow one in its day on that line ?

The restrictions were lifted at some point, as Black Fives and 8Fs were common up Cauldon. 4Fs were the most common, but there's plenty of pics of Black 5s and 8s working along the line. Hence with the 9F we presume it's wheelbase, but can't actually prove it.
