A little blurry, but still one of the best I took on the day at Harrington.

Agree with pretty much everything that was in this post. 86259 performed well on both legs of the trip and got us back to Euston a few minutes early. The noise from the 8F was more than adequate in both directions and the climb of Shap sounded terrific. Must say a thanks to Network Rail and West Coast for letting the trip run with a decidedly slower locomotive as both could have pulled the plug if they didn't think it was up to the job. The cut down time in Carlisle made it a bit of a rush job but that was understandable in the circumstances. Smart work meant the loco was turned and the train serviced in time during the short layover we had there.

The coastal route was a real highlight. Scenery was excellent and the break at Sellafield was a helpful leg stretching stop for what was to be a long return journey. Again, the noise from the 8F as it climbed Lindal bank was very audible even from 8 coaches back. All in all, a great trip. Thanks to RTC, WCRC and others involved.

A bit late but onboard video of the 8 on Shap.

Also got some speeds, for those interested.
Burton in Kendal, 50; Holme, a bit more; Milnthorpe, still a bit more; Sedgewick, 47; Oxemholme, 40; Meal Bank, 36; Lambrigg, 36; and then shortly after that eased for the loop.
On Shap, Tebay, 50ish; Scotsmans Bridge, 45; Scout Green, 30; then down to 26/27 for the rest of the climb. As you will hear from the video, once the summit was passed speed soon picked up again and I stopped recording when the wind noise got too much for the mic..

Many thanks for posting this Ralph it was so good to re-live this and hear it a bit louder than 7 coaches back.
I recall her also getting to the top and she was off almost sprinting. :)
