I am pleased they have found a suitable home. The U is a lovely loco and the N deserves to be back in service too.
I will miss seeing them at MHR but luckily Swanage isn't too far to visit.

Wonderful news for Swanage. The locos are ideal and its good that they will only really be 60 miles from their old home.

Good news, but isn't 31874 supposed to be in a bad way?

Very good news. It was widely rumoured that the U's would go to Swanage, but good to see the N is joining them and is to be overhauled so quickly.

Interesting to see that the SR see a need for a core fleet of 6 locomotives. So 30053, 6695, 80104, 31806, 31625 and 31874 makes six. Where does that leave SLL and all their Bulleid Pacifics?

The figures quoted in the press release implied having five out of six available at any one time (give or take minor repairs, washouts etc) and completing a heavy general overhaul of the sixth loco roughly every 18 months. Is that realistic without the continued presence of the SLL fleet?

One thing is for sure though, they are now going to need the workshop space themselves rather than letting SLL use it.

34028 out of traffic imminently, and 6695 a few months behind! And neither of those two are likely to be fast track overhauls....

    So that leaves 34070, 30053, 31806, and 80104

This is very good news as all the locos will return to work-a fresh start!
I hope John will be able to enjoy them as well

If the N is as rough as it was supposed to be then August 2015 will be a smart piece of work... Unless they're sending it away somewhere?

I think what people are getting confused about here is SLL.
SLL are not leaving Swanage, nor does it seem Swanage Railway want them to go. Having a core of 6 means, 6 working or under running maintenance locomotives in my view.
Lets say SLL continue to provide 2 ( 80104 and 34072 or 34070) then that would provide a really healthy fleet. I don't think anyone wants SLL to think they are being pushed out. SR is in my view making a good move in having a balanced fleet. SLL will hopefully continue to be a part of that. Anyway, arn't SLL under contract to SR anyway and im pretty sure that SR is a major shareholder in SLL?

Regardless of whether or not it meets the August 2015 deadline or not. I would love to see 31874 visit its old stomping ground of Okehampton on a visit. I think it barking up the hill to Meldon on a freight working would certainly pull in the punters, plus the odd photo charter.

They can always start talking to the NYMR! Plenty of work to suit a Bulleid Light Pacific and a Class 4 tank.

    A Thingy...
80104 is under maintenance with the pistons receiving attention while repairs are being made to the boiler at Adam Dalgleish of Stockton. NickT might wish to clarify the situation regarding the future of the 4MT in due course.

Effectively, SR will probably stick with two Bulleids as they provide a crowd pleaser, possibly with a third (34028) in the works. As such, I think we now see an SR that will be self-sufficient in motive power once more of the moguls come on-stream. Anyway, the SR without 34072 is almost unthinkable! Now for that Maunsell push-pull set and a set of Bulleid carriages...

One last thing, these comments are not representative of SLL.

If you read the press release it does say a total of 6 locomotives, with one under overhaul at any time.

That said I can't see SLL leaving Swanage completely. I think 34072 and one other Bulleid will remain.

However these new arrivals mean the SR cannot afford to have its workshop space used to overhaul locos, only for them to be sent to other lines (34053 and Norman). It's inevitable there are some changes ahead for SLL
