Looked lovely at Euston. The ECS left a few minutes early but managed a few pics of her being taken out of the station up Camden bank. Also managed to cab her as the crew allowed people on the footplate.

May have had a little assistance from the back leaving New Street, just seemed a little quiet from the 'Big Lass' up front ? But she seemed to get into em on Soho bank, nothing sparkling for the rest of the trip up, but obviously fighting to keep within 'our slot'
A happy lad, at Wetherspoons in Holborn, looking forward to an unassisted climb up Camden bank. ?

Slow coming up Camden Bank and slipped at little opposite the Roundhouse but then started to gain good speed. The Duff on the back appeared to either to be off or idling so I believe the Duchess was un-aided. Not sure what 10 coaches, one water carrier and a duff equate too but that has to be a pretty big load.

Not sure about the weight of GUV but with the 47 it must be equivalent to 14/15, so in the good old days a normal load.

Amazing tour ran today, first time booked on with VT but it would seem all the group I booked with her very impressed! Not that there should've been any doubt. A solid performance from the beautiful Duchess and the early arrival into Euston just topped the day off rather quickly! Many thanks go out to VT for this run, wont be the last time I book on a tour with them!

A remarkable day in many ways. We did run non stop and that was mostly due to the careful timing of the train by Andy Taylor, the driver. We could have so easily been stopped at Stechford but fortunately the WCML was behaving itself and we kept close enough to our path not to be a problem. The diesel gave us a push out of New Street to avoid issues in the tunnel but was otherwise silent southbound. The load including REG was a massive 540 gross - not an unusual load for a Duchess in her day but certainly unusual nowadays - Clan Line/ British Pullman excepted.

High spots of the southbound run were:
    - the climb out of Northampton to Roade. Rising steadily from 21 through the station to 47 at the top
    - the run uphill from Leighton Buzzard to Tring where we only fell away from 71 to 63 up the 1 in 330. (Remember the load)
    - A late dash at 75 through Harrow and a fairly brisk entry to Euston. Only 8 min in from Willesden.

John Daniel took us back and kept us to time. Got her up to 63 by Bushey but was checked through Watford (16) and so had to start all over again on the climb up to Tring that we crested at 57. Steady running all the way to Nuneaton with the rare highlight of running through Milton Keynes at 70+ before the severe bridge restriction at Wolverton (that was also observed on the southbound run). Starting from the signal stop at Nuneaton Abbey Junc there was no way we would be able to drag the train up the 1 in 130 to Stockingford Tunnel so we had a push.

Clearly the Duchess turned many heads today. Even a northbound Pendo slowed up as it passed us for the driver to have a closer look. Thanks to the support crew, VT for organising the day and WC for letting the Duchess show us what she can do.
