Nice to see an authentic locomotive is available to commemorate a significant date in the history of Southern steam.
9/7/12 - 35028 on one of the most remarkable non-stop runs in Southern preservation history.
9/7/14 - 44932....well you can add the rest yourself.

You could add 9/7/13 - a wonderfully authentic DBS Class 67 replacing a similarly authentic A1!

44932 now shown as Motive power for this trip on the UKSteam info. site.
Steam into Weymouth, diesel (Class 33?) return to Southampton.

It will probably be the Swanage's Class 33 see http://railwayherald.com/imagingcentre/view/339729/TW

I emailed the 71A Loco Group and they confirmed 33012 would be used on the Dorset Coast trips this year, which should mean the steam legs will be without a diesel on the rear.

Halleluja! That's progress I suppose. I'm glad I did this trip in the good old days when it was steam both ways though.

I travelled on quite a few of them. You could get some unusual combinations for the SR. On one trip we had 44932 fresh from overhaul on the outward leg with 4492 (60019) on the return leg. Then there was 46115 with a class 47. On another trip we had 4492 one way and 30777 on the return.

Still no tickets yet for next Wednesdays trip.

When more locos are available Nigel wants Dorset Coast to be a 2 steam loco no diesel trip.
    34016 34067 35018 could be the pool
Anyway we can dream. I'd predict this will happen but clearly not until more locos are ready especially 75mph with "hungry" owners
The above pool would be very popular so green five and 6026 can be optimistic but also perhaps patient !

I look forward to that pool of loco's Ray, particularly 35018.
I don't mind the Class 33 either. Haven't been behind one of them on the Main Line since the MHR had two of them registered. So at least we will have one SR loco on the train. I just hope 44932 behaves herself!

Anyone got tickets for this trip yet or are RTC waiting to see if 44932 makes it through the weekend?

    I'll be patient :)

It would be nice to run behind 34016 on the mainline again. The last trip I did with it turned out to be its last main line run to date.

Had an e-mail this evening to say that RTC are still waiting for the final timings from Network Rail.

I was on platform 2 when Clan Line roared through and before it did I met some fantastic chaps from Nigeria who didn't believe a steam train was due through at speed. What they witnessed and what they said was timeless. I have just found my footage recorded on a flip video and will download onto You Tube shortly.

With some amateur commentary, here is 35028 storming through Woking on its way back to London Waterloo in 2013 on the End of Steam special. Even the platform staff go the true WOW factor of a Merchant Navy at speed!

Please don't rub it in. July 9th 2014 will not be quite the same as this at any number of levels.
