I just saw on the North Norfolk website that Black Prince is listed as 'stored out of service', does this mean it won't be available for the Summer season?

 

Correct. I believe it has a large number of stays that require attention / replacement and it only has a short time left its the boiler ticket so not financially viable to repair.

 

Given it's up for sale to the right buyer, is it going to stay out of service until it's changed hands or it an overhaul planned ?.

 

The asking price may well have tumbled somewhat.

 

Spotted in the sidings at Crewe HC this morning. Appeared complete, loco and tender, which might indicate other than boiler work only.

 

If it's more financially sensible to bring an overhaul forward than repair, you may as well tend to any issues with the frames and running gear at the same time to save on more downtime during the next ticket, in the last few years I've seen a few supposedly in ticket loco's, effectively up on bricks with no wheels, sat idle for months because of things like new tyres being required, ok they may still have had 3 or 4 years life in them at the last overhaul, but if you have to withdraw an operational loco for things like this, its a double whammy because while your paying out for the work to be done, your income stream is also drying up because your not out there earning steaming fee's.

 

Also the spend on repairs may yield proportionately more when the loco is sold so a sensible investment to make the loco more attractive to prospective buyers.

 

Any updates on the current status of Black Prince?

 

Tender was still at Weybourne earlier in the month.

 

And was Sunday.

 

The rest of it would seem to be at Crewe, being stripped and overhauled, from pictures I've seen earlier this summer

 

Does anyone know if it is having a complete overhaul and if it has been bought or not?

 

Understand it is still in the ownership of David Shepherd and may continue so for the immediate future.

Phone up Mr Shepherd and ask him I presume you have an interest in it.... He will make public what he wants etc as will any potential or new buyer... if you want to buy it but want it overhaul.... if you want to help with it he might say yes

 

Whilst this forum has been mired in WSR grief and SBR mockery, some real preservation news seems to have bypassed it. 92203 returned to the North Norfolk Railway for a another long spell of duty following completion of major boiler repairs at Crewe over the past year. A few jobs remain to be done before it can enter traffic which is expected to be a couple of weeks away.

 

Fantastic news. How long is Black Prince staying at the NNR for?

 

5 years+ is the plan

 

Should be plenty of opportunities to double head with the WD when it returns to service then

 

Wasn't Black Prince up for sale at one point? Has this situation now changed?
