    Ah ...those mist covered mountains.

Pity about lack of steam though...

....... except, National Rail Enquiries reveals that a Wakefield Westage Return to Scarborough is £36.50 and the usual SSE price is £39, currently showing as reduced to £35.10.

York is Scarborough is £17.50 cheapest by TPE, £25 ordinary SSE and £22,50 current per website.

Return of the "Merrymakers"? Still looks pretty good value, especially from Wakefield 9which normally would involve a change en route except by SSE).

Oh why worry, we are all Brothers at Arms in the gricing fraternity and anyway class 47s are iconic locos from the steam era, unless of course you were expecting to get the magnificent 46115. Then you certainly might thinks its money for nothing.

The SSE is a good package with many on and off options and no doubt, when the schools are on holiday this trip will be popular. You do only get less than three hours in Scarborough though so it's hardly a day out by the sea given the broadly similar options by service train. But surely the whole point is the novelty of steam (even for the general public) and that takes us back to the beginning.

Its only a thought, but with steam currently being sidelined by the powers that be, couldn't west coast capitalize on the situation by trying to tempt the diesel enthusiasts by using the NRMs 55002 on occasional use say once a week. Last year I think it did some ecs moves for WC, so just a thought....

In the absence of steam, I'd happily pay for some Deltic haulage and so would plenty of others I'd imagine.

We can have a mini Jolly Boys to the seaside, and with a Deltic upfront for just one weeks work...........it would be sold out in quick time.
I'm sure that with a decent deal Martin Walker would bring 55022 down from Scotland, it only works at weekends up there. It's just had it's annual mainline cert. renewed.

Thanks. Pretty mundane stuff for a Deltic but helps pay the bills no doubt.
