BR Blue represented the worst period is the history of the VoR - certainly not something to be celebrated or commemorated

BR black represented the worst period in the history of many standard gauge lines and locos, yet it remains quite popular in preservation:). Plain BR blue was a terrible livery for any loco but the later variation lined in white looked surprisingly good and things started to look better for the VoR.

Amen to that! The VoR's survival into the "Rail Blue" era is a unique selling point, so why not exploit it? I'm too young to remember the VoR tanks in blue so it's a sight I'd love to see in the flesh!

yes I agree, although I'd prefer the plain blue as that's how I remember them

I must admit I liked the BR blue when it was lined in the 1980's but now whenever I look at the Locos now I am disappointed in their appearance [ notched out buffer beams/ taller cab and pump right on the front] So I think what's the point? I know its just me! but if they were standard gauge nobody would dream of changing their appearance.

BR Blue would look very interesting! Is there any chance of a Vale of Rheidol enthusiasts club/society etc in the future? I'm aware it's all paid staff on the Vale of Rheidol line but no doubt there's many enthusiasts who would like to help or just keep abreast of news where possible

I was thinking more a club with membership dues etc, perhaps another way to raise funds to restore No 7, rather than an official Facebook fan page which is the only Vale of Rheidol page i'm aware of on FB?

No I do not currently volunteer
There was a members association but when BR sold the line this was disbanded and the funds and support were diverted to other lines including I think the W&L.

The new platform at Devil's Bridge has made a huge improvement to the station - volunteers have given the station sign a fresh lick of paint and planted up the flower beds ready for the busy summer ahead . . .

I used to love the authenticity of the VoR under BR ownership; staff looked just like BR staff at Manchester, Leeds etc - fag hanging out of mouth as they ran round at Devils Bridge ... I don't suppose you could go that far nowadays!

A new platform, a new flower bed, and perhaps a new loco? Number 4 creeping into view.....?!

If you have a look on the Rheidol's Facebook page (linked from their website, no Facebook account needed to view it) you'll find a few more teasing photos which might give you clues about Number 4... ;)

Going to be in Wales next week, based in top left corner but I might have to make the a trip down to Aber as I have not visited since I was very young, vague recollections of BR green locos at Devils Bridge in the mid-late 60s
