Nice shot John. Make a change to see her crawl past Woodacre rather than going 'full chat'!

Cheers Alan, no doubt the story behind the unscheduled stop will emerge in the fullness of time.

Good photo opportunity, particularly from the standing start after the signal check. I have an identical one! - stood just to your left, behind you, on the bridge. Will be interested to find out what the cause was.

Don't know why you bothered cutting the clip of the lineside fire from your video, it's not as if the authorities wouldn't have known. The fire brigade have to log all incidents large or small.

I agree the fire service will have the incident logged and all who need to know will have the information.

And here it is, signaller reported seeing smoke issuing from under a coach, so we were stopped for investigation. We were told it was from the small diesel generator under the recently refitted kitchen car, to provide it's own independent power supply.
After a delayed arrival in Lime Street just before 10pm, now T&T diesels, where only a handful of passengers were left, we loaded all the first class coaches with passengers for Runcorn and Crewe. These were just a small number of the many thousands of people who had descended on Liverpool to see the 'Giants Festival'.
Interesting to note that the lady from Virgin who was supervising the loading did not want to use the two empty standard coaches for her passengers, heard to comment "We are not going to use those coaches, they are not suitable". I'm sure those who therefore had to wait even longer would have preferred a second class ride to a first class wait.
Unfortunately it seemed that once again the inflexible rail services were unable to cope with the vast numbers trying to get home. many of those who were lucky enough to travel with us had been waiting nearly three hours. Two trains seen leaving whilst we loaded were, 2 coach units, one a pacer and the other something a bit more modern, not sure what. Both were absolutely packed. There were still many hundreds queueing in the station when we left with the driver of the IR 37 struggling for grip as we moved out of the station into the tunnels.

About 20 diesel cranks in the front coach where in a state of ecstasy at the noise being produced.....

Excuse me if I am being obtuse, but I am having trouble understanding some of this thread.

I have watched the last bit several times. All I can see that we would not want to see is a very brief clip, right at the end, out of the front of a road vehicle. At no point in that video can I see either smoke from under a coach or a lineside fire. Will some kind soul please point me to the relevant time in the video and what I should be able to see?

RTT shows arrival at 21:46, only four minutes late. Is that wrong?

If all but a handful remained on board, how come there was room for some of the people from the Giants Festival?

I'm long overdue signing up but here's my video of the kitchen car smoke problem. It explains why the train was more or less on time at Lancaster but 30 minutes late at Preston.

We were running early after some very spirited running from Crewe and then sat in the tunnels outside Lime Street for about 10 minutes, at the time it seemed a long time and had not checked our due time.

Sorry, edited now, only a handful of passengers left on board.
