For a thread about 6100 there's an awful lot of Patriot talk so which loco is the above? It's neither A4 nor Spamcan that I do know. :)

Hardly a bit of Pink insight ! Is there to be Air Braking ?
Not having an ideal flue / tube balance would be more detrimental to efficiency than outright performance ?
Apologies I haven't really looked into the Patriot then vsus now but ISTR theres a little more jubilee in the bottom end than your originals which would stand in good stead for a higher Boiler pressure. Lets hope the axleboxes to be used owe more to LMS(GWR) than the original MR... Happy for this and the Patriot Bashing above to be shifted me old mods...

Yes i believe the air pump is cut into one of the smoke deflectors and through the running plate. But i havent actually seen this for my self.

Yes i think the Patriot bits would be better shifted so this can stay all about 46100 and its return to steam in...... sept......?

Nice thought but probably not. Strikes me that it would first have to build up a reputation of reliability before it was let loose on the BP. However (most of) the Hosking stable plus Tornado do come to mind.

You'd have thought Braunton would be the natural choice, however we digress!

Back to 6100 - it will be nice to see it grace the mainline metals again in whatever colour - but I feel Brunswick Green will be preferable to some dodgy shade of pink.

I think it was in last month's (or the month before?) Steam Railway that 6100 (to become 46100) is hoped to be a straight swap for Bittern in Jeremy Hosking's mainline stable, Bittern being withdrawn at the end of the year for overhaul.

That'd make a lot of sense!

So, do we assume she'd be Southall based?..................................... :):):)

I think that it would be good for it to be Southall located. Many people have been wanting A scot to visit. Why not have one based at Southall instead.

That pink by the way was THE WORST.

Especially if it was joined by one of the jubilees that are about to join the mainline fold..

I'd be surprised to see if 4464 was out for too long mind.. spare boiler at crewe already, after last years 90mph runs its not exactly one i'd vote as being mechanically knackered.
a replacement for 70000 maybe, much of the last 2 years its been laid up and its only been out 4 years !

That can only stand as testament as to the quality of restoration undertaken at Ropley :) and the subsequent maintenance regime.

As for the Brit, lets not go there....... not a good advert for the old regime at Crewe is it? I'll say no more.

Back to 6100, it would make a lot of sense for the Scot to take over from where Bittern leaves off............ as for having a Jub down here - either will do! T'will make a nice change of motive power.... :):):)

Didn't Crewe start overhauling the spare boiler purchased by JH for 4464 from the NRM, almost as soon as it arrived from Wroughton?

That was certainly the gist of the press release at the time that ownership transfer took place, therefore maybe the spare boiler is not too far away from completion. However even though mechanically "Bittern" is probably pretty good, id be surprised to see a turn around in less than 12 months.

Ah, ok thanks. Obviously not quite so far down the overhaul timetable as was thought.;)

How I wish I could see that sight over the Leeds-Hudderfield "New Line", I remember Seaforth Highlander on those jobs. Sadly (for me) the "New Line" is no more, long gone, but I'd go a long way to see and ride behind a Scot double headed with a 5 or a Jubilee.
